I finally got a DVX100a

Just starting to learn this camera. And I am looking all over this board, It's great by the way.

I am using Premiere and After Effects, Vegas to edit.
I am mainly looking to get a "FILM" look to make a few small shorts to learn with

I have been messing with the settings and I am wondering which would be better for me to use. 24p or 24a

I know it has alot to do with how I edit the files.. Im still new to this. So with wanting to tape in film mode, does anyone have any recomendations on how I should go about this.. Does 24p or 24a give a better film look

Thanks
Terry

I probably shouldn't be answering questions only having been here a week, but I think I know this. For one and I'll quote, "there is 99.99% no difference between the quality of 24p and 24pa."

Other than that it just has to do with how you want to edit. If you're planning on editing in 60i then shoot 24p if you're going to edit on a true 24p timeline than shoot in 24pa.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong about that.

ok. i did read that. I jsu tdont understand why you would shoot in 24p then edit in 60i... can anyone explain this to me? Im lost on this part

Thanks for the reply

Ok here is some quick advice based on my experience...
24p actually is a pull down conversion that its takes from noraml video (30fps), it at it most simple mimics a 24fps through this conversion. This is why you are able to edit without trouble because most software will still recognize it as video or 30fps.
If you shoot in 24padvanced you are actually shooting in 24fps but when it comes to editing you either may need a plug in or it will not allow you to edit unless your software can edit in 24fps. Using Premiere i believe you may be better of using 24p. This is what i use, and with some scene setting adjustmets it will mimic film very nicely.

**this is a very basic explanation some one else maybe able to get more technical with you**
