Ok I downloaded the ptools app for my mac. I've been reading up on the hack for a while and I think i'm ready to take the plunge. There is only a few things stopping me from loading it right now.

Here is my current setup:

Camera & accessories:
Code:
GH1 factory firmware settings
14-140mm Kit Lens

Editing rig:
Code:
24' iMac with Snow lepoard 10.6.4

System specs:
Code:
 Model Name:	iMac
  Model Identifier:	iMac4,1
  Processor Name:	Intel Core Duo
  Processor Speed:	2 GHz
  Number Of Processors:	1
  Total Number Of Cores:	2
  L2 Cache:	2 MB
  Memory:	2 GB

Graphics specs:
Code:
ATI Radeon X1600:

  Chipset Model:	ATY,RadeonX1600
  Type:	GPU
  Bus:	PCIe
  PCIe Lane Width:	x16
  VRAM (Total):	128 MB

Editing program:
Code:
Final Cut Studio 2

FCP 6.0.6 + magic bullet looks
After Effects CS3

With that setup being said, here is my goals:

1080p native 24 avchd & mjpeg
720p native 24 avchd & mjpeg
1080p30 recording mode
720p30 recording mode
720p60 recording mode
No MUD/jello in all above shooting modes

Pretty simple huh?

This is my problem. From all the reading I've been doing, there is still much to sort through to find out my exact questions. I kinda need that last bit of clarification for me to really take the plunge.

so I'm going to ask so maybe I can get all the help here in my thread rather than searching through the 1000+ posts about the hack which I've already looked through without getting clarification.

question 1:
- native 24p right now is not a drag and drop feature for FCP since FCP requires 23.976. So will I just have to wait for a part of the hack to make it a 23.976 output or will it forever be 23.761 and FCP users just got the shaft?

question 2:
I read a lot about the 720p30 settings, but is there a 720p24? I don't want to always have to shoot 1080p24 and export to 720p. And if there is a 720p24 native hack, does the 23.761 output still apply? leaving me stuck?

question 3:
I've been reading, but maybe I'm reading so much that its just not sticking at all, but does the native 24p not allow playback in camera just in mjepg or in avchd also?

question 4:
will I still be able to shoot in 720p60 avchd, which is what I currently use a lot as of the moment because of the smooth slow mo @ 50%speed in a 60fps timeline?

question 5:
I can always go back to factory setup by just loading the firmware and unchecking everything right? or will I have to minus the bitrate data I've changed?

question 6:
I'm planning on getting the panny 20mm1.7, panny 7-14, and maybe a 70-300mm 2.8 or something... will any of these lenses be affected negatively by the hack? as in not capture footage correctly? not as in screwing the lens up.

question 7:
the no mud setting is achieved by finding the right bitrate for your card correct? of course I have to take some preventative measures while shooting also...

thats it at the moment. I can add if I need more clarification, but this is all I can come up with at the moment for whats stopping me right now.

Your Good to Go! Don't be scared. JUS DO IT! Jus remember you'll need the mac version. As far as your questions go, nothing will mess with your 720/60 settings as far as I know as long as you follow the correct setups in the "stable MJPEG and AVCHD settings" thread

I've been using native 24p and haven't had any problems editing in FCP. My footage reads 24.976 in MediaInfo Mac, and 29.98 in FCP. The meta data states that the clips are upper field first, but they function like clips with no fields. If you place the clips in a sequence without fields there is no rendering, and if you let FCP create it's own sequence to match the clip, it creates a sequence with no fields. Plus, the patch is reversible if you use version compare. If you can't get native 24p to work, you can always re-patch the camera without native 24p checked.

There is also the fact that you will most likely get card speed errors with native 24p. Depending on what you shoot, a lot of people have had problems with native 24p card errors.

But the higher bitrate should work great.

I have a PNY class 4 16GB Card. I know crappy as hell, BUT I just hacked the GH1 with ptools 3.40d.

I'm using
MJPEG 720p30 -> 720p24

AVCHD
Native 24p
FHD/SH 44Mbps
H 22Mbps
L 18Mbps
Overall 44Mbps
Limit 50Mbps

448K audio? (the highest one) with 48K sampling

So far I'm not having any problems, but The only thing I really don't like is no camera playback for AVCHD... @ least in FHD and SH. I haven't tried H or L yet.

why don't you really like a feature that works. AVCHD plays back in camera, but when you up the audio bitrate it doesn't.

oh i didnt know that it was the audio bitrate that was preventing playback in camera. AWESOME info man, I'm prolly going to change it back to OEM audio setting since I just ordered a zoom h4n.

I love the hack itself though. Nothing against it with no playback with audio increase, I was just stating that its a loss that I dont mind, just with it played back so I can review clips.

Main reason being that It can't live view to an external monitor while recording so sometimes I would jus check the footage afterwards in cam to make sure it looked ok. Sometimes I even hooked up a monitor through RCA so that I can preview it on a monitor. I just can't do that now. no big deal though.
