GH3 Help Recoding Audio on GH3 Using In-Camera Mic

I am shooting on Saturday with two cameras. I usually use the Rode VMP, but I need one camera to record sound using the onboard mic.
I need to know what mic level to set this at so the sound is not distorted and and accurate as possible. Any ideas? I'm guessing halfway between 1 and the top range? I know there are a couple audio experts on here. Audio is my weak point.

I am no audio guy ...but I would do a test.

We have no idea what you are filming, where or how... or the sound levels involved there.... so doubt anyone can supply a better answer..

Shooter oftentimes that's your answer and when it is it's always stop on!
Unfortunately most of my video work is event videography where the recording is live and there are no opportunities to test beforehand or even check during. That being said, I am recording a dance recital. The camera using the onboard microphone will be needing to record the audience as well as music playing during the recital. I presume there's a default microphone level that is adequate to avoid peeking or that is too low?

I think you will find it very challenging to get decent sound for either/both the PA system and whatever sound the audience makes...with a single onboard microphone.

That said..there is always a little time to go to the Mic Input Level (Menu) and tweak it to the situation.

These cameras do not offer the ability to attenuate the audio on the fly...unless you use a field mixer in the chain.

This in abilty makes these type of cameras only marginally functional for what you do. IMHO. Movies = Video and Audio!
