HELP! Quicktime is squishing my footage!

i shot a film in 16x9, 24p on the DVX100b. no anamorphic adapter, just in-camera 16x9. everything looks great in final cut pro when i'm editing and playing it back. "item properties" says it's 720 x 480. but when i make a quicktime movie, it stretches it out on the sides, squishing it top to bottom. but it still says it's 720 x 480. WTF? any ideas?

In quicktime, with the file open, Command + J, click on the video track tab, check the video settings (preserve aspect ratio button / resolution...etc).

Did you shoot it with the letterbox on? Or in squeeze?

It doesn't really matter now I guess, but do what Jason (awakenedfilms) said.

thanks for the ideas guys. but it's still doing it.

i shot in squeeze. so it's not 4:3 letterbox. i tried command J and turning "preserve aspect ratio" OFF. nothing happens. and when i close and reopen with command J, it toggles back to "preserve aspect ratio" ON. i also tried plugging in 854 x 480 in the ratio, but that stretches it out more. i can put in 720 x 500 and it looks closer to how it looks in final cut pro, but what kind of problems is that gonna cause when i go to DVD? why is this even happening? i love FCP up until the most important stage, exporting!

ok, this worked. command J in quicktime. changed the ratio to 640 x 480. it now matches the video in my timeline perfectly. but the FCP timeline footage still says it's 720 x 480. is this a prob with QT only? do i burn to DVD at 720 x 480 or is it going to look retarded on DVD if i leave it at 640 x 480?

I have the same problem. If I remember correctly though, when I made a DVD, the footage was properly displayed in 16:9. I used iDVD with widescreen settings.
