HELP: problem at the airport with my Camcorder!

It's the first time I travel carrying a "professional camcorder", a Pelican case, a used DVX100A and accessories. At the airport (Casablanca/Morocco) they took my materials until I pay for Taxes!!
I'm Moroccan citizen, resident/student at USA, I'm not planing to sale my camcorder, I don't know what I have to do, I'm wondering if some one had the same experience and how do you do guys do when you travel, should I have a special papers/authorizations?
PS: they took my small digital camera and HDD also, they are really creazy.

yup in this case you need a carnet :-( sorry to hear this! next time go to Tangier, take the ferry and leave from Spain ;-) Never had any problems via Tangier !
 
Hi All,

I am traveling with my family and also bring DVX100B with me . If the destination country let me in without any problem, then when I am coming back to US do have still have to pay taxes ?

wasup Raymond, they need to estimate my materials first and I should pay about 30%, I think it's gonna be around $600, They also want to taxe my very old HDD and a small camera.
 
it looks as if ayyoub cant avoid it. being a moroccan citizen, entering with a US bought camera, they have the right to tax him. his only chance might be to leave it with them til he flies back to USA...
This is totally different if you as a foreigner enter a country with your equipment. Some countries might ask for a carnet if its a whole hollywood-style equipment truck.

That's too bad. I don't think he can leave with them as I believe part of his reason for going back at this time is for a project. Ayyoub can expound on that if he desires to.
 
Finally I got my Camcorder, I payed around $400, the taxes in Morocco are 12.25%+20% of the estimated price.
Usually an used professional camcorder is estimated around $1000.

maybe you can get those 400 $ back when you take the stuff out to USA ?....anyway glad you got it liberated for less than you thought:-)
