Help PLEASE! (lavaliere mic repair)

I've got a Sony ECM55b lav mic -- and a cat chewed through the cable.

Is this something I can repair simply by cutting the cable and "splicing" it back together? OR, are there multiple channels to the wire and it's not something that an "amateur lav mic repairman" can fix?

My genuine thanks for your help!

There are usually several wires and a shield, all very delicate. Because of the shield, simply splicing the internal wires isn't enough - one usually needs to add an inline connector. All in all, not a job for the handy-man, send the mic back to the mfgr for to replace the entire cable or to a pro audio shop that has had practice at it.

if it's very near the connector I might have a go at if it were mine but I have a lot of electronics experience. Splicing in the middle would be a fixit for now because we need it NOW situation. Otherwise I would bite the bullet and send it to a shop or the maker to have the cable replaced. Isn't it amazing how expensive pets can get.

a lot of lav's CANT have the cable replaced.

The good news is with that ancient 55b you could just buy an SM57 and hang it around their necks and it'll be about the same size ;) (jk)

The ECM55b isn't that large. I have an old Shure that is about the size of an Oktava body! Sort of 60's anchorman mic. Fun but not too practical.

just a joke man.
But it is a mic im glad to say i havent had to use in 15 or so years.
I remember having to "attempt" to hide those beastly 55's on occasion. Memories not
sorely missed.

I bought way back in the day 2 Shure SM11's.
It was a dynamic lav. They were huge for a lav.
Never used them once and sold them back on ebay for what i bought um for a few years later.

THAT'S IT. Cool hmmm. Now just try to hide that!

Aw, c'mon... a little moleskin, some gaffer's tape... and a heavy winter coat. Done and done.

Gotta love how Professor Julius has the cable tucked into his belt. Of course, it's hard to get past the whole "creepy dude trying to teach kids about science" thing. This show didn't last more than a season.
