So I am in a little situation deciding which lens to pick up for my next purchase. I want something that can get clear macro shots, so I was thinking about getting a macro lens but then I read into the option of purchasing a macro lens extension tube which can add onto one of my lenses.

I also saw some videos for some great cctv lenses so I was interested in those (they seemed the cheaper route) but I definitely want the best quality I can get for my budget, which is around $200. I know its not much, but I am just curious as to what you guys think.

So which macro lens do you recommend for my gh2? Or do you recommend a macro extension tube?

I got the vivitar 55mm macro that was a canon fd fit, and an fd to m4/3 adapter from ciceo7 on ebay. Great lens especially for the money.

Hmm well I have been looking at the sigma 24mm super wide II 2.8 and the carl zeis 25mm 2.8

Anyone have experience with these and the gh2? are these solid macro lenses?

How close do you need to be to get the macro shot you are thinking of?
I have two FD lenses with "macro modes" that together were less than $100.

The much-hyped 35-105mm F/3.5 is pretty sharp and picked up from KEH for about $80 or so. The macro mode lets you get in closer, but it is still admittedly not as close as I would like for a macro.

I also picked up a Sears-brand 135mm F/2.8 that has a pretty darned useful macro mode (focus all the way back, and the front of the lens stick out enough to expose a special "macro ring", which you can then adjust beyond the focus wheel). But since it is a pretty far telephoto to begin with, you don't really need to get so close in the first place. The best bit? This lens was about $7 on ebay. But expect razor-thin DOF at that range, which can be annoying.

Good luck!

I am looking to use this for my short films, so it won't be my primary lens but its just nice to have. Im not sure how close I need to get, but I want something with good quality.

Is something like the sigma 24mm super wide II not even worth getting or the olympus 35mm f3.5? I can't afford that nikon 105mm but it seems awesome .

I have the Tamron SP 90mm 2.5 you linked to earlier and love it.

It's a great lens for the price and gets really sharp.

I also have the Nikkor 55 2.8 Micro and love that as well.

I really do love both of these, you can't go wrong with either.

I also have the sigma superwideII and although it does focus close, it really doesn't compare to the nikon and tamron

do you have the tamron 2.8 or 2.5 ? Big price difference on ebay, trying to decide between the tamron or something like that nikon..
