Help: Perplexed

Ok, so I purchased an IndiRAILSpro XVsm from Indisytem for a Panasonic HMC150 but sold the cam before I ever got to use it. Now, I have this shoulder mount and will plan on using it for a Canon Eos 7D. Dumb question, but I'm new to all this, but how am I supposed to attach the camera to this:

Looks like a baseplate but it seems like I'm actually missing a piece or something. Any help would be great!

No, that is correct, I have the same plate. Take out the little nub as that doesn't work with the 7D. You'll need a screw to go through one of the bigger holes into your camera which mine came with and an allen wrench to tighten.

What I did was use a Manfrotto quick release plate on mine to help out.

hey thanks! so urs actually came with a screw? i wouldn't even know thread size and such to even purchase one. i was under the impression that everything i needed to use would come with it, thought tha's what i paid for. looks like another phone call it is!

To be 100% honest, I cannot remember, but I am pretty sure it had a screw I could use. I originally got it to work with my HV30 and a DIY35mm adapter, but I moved on to the 7D and use a follow focus on it now (when I use it).

I forget the thread size, but it's standard for most cameras. I replaced the screw with a thumb screw type thing from a local camera store. so I could pop it on and off more quickly.

I also use it with the Uboat commander handles from IDC photography. It's pretty cool.

hmm, looks like i'll have to check that out. thought i was going to need to purchase a separate dslr plate to use with this rig. went this route bcuz i thought it'd be easier to use with matte box, monitor, etc. so now i have to figure what thread, screw size, etc. nice.

grimepoch, would u happen to have any pics of ur rig? im currently in the process of compiling a list and would lov to see what the rig would look like given the fact that we have the same shoulder mount. thanks!

Sorry for the poor quality of these images, I was shooting on a camera other than my 7D and was in a bit of a hurry. What you can see here is that I combined the indiRails with the UBoat Commander from IDC. I bought the grips separately and installed them on their metal grips. They work FANTASTIC.

The Follow Focus is the D-Focus V2.0 from JAG35. It works great (they are on version 3) although I do not care for their rings. I am going to try the magnetic rings that Indi just announced not too long ago.

The lens on there is a 30mm Sigma.

When I need to do a lot of focus pulls I use this rig. I have modified it slightly since this adding a Manfrotto plate because I pop my camera between this, a monopod setup I use (that I am getting ready to do a video on because the setup is cool) and a Blackbird Stabilizer which is a MUST. Best thing I ever bought for my 7D.

very cool setup! love those handgrips! would you recommend the D-Focus over the indiFOCUSmini?

as far as the "thumb screw" is concerned. I'm trying to see it from your posted pics but am having a hard time doing so. know where i can get something similar online? i know the tripod/cam thread is 1/4" but it seems difficult as hell placing the thread in between the riser and twisting it to tighten the cam to the riser. pretty "sloppy" design IMO.
