HELP! P2 directory structure corrupted.

Im posting this for a client.. has anyone seen this error before?

"I received this warning when trying to transfer a "backed-up" P2 volume: "TQ033 has an invalid directory structure". The volume has the AUDIO and VIDEO folders but the CLIP, ICON, PROXY, and VOiCE folders inside the CONTENTS folders are missing. The LASTCLIP.TXT file is there and I verified the size between the volume back-up and the volume on the card before reformatting the card. Yes that is right, the card has been reformatted. Is there any way too rebuild the CONTENTS directory or retrieve the audio and video from the volume"

It's odd that the files and folders that someone who isn't familiar with the P2 workflow might think are not needed are missing, and the folders that hold the majority of the data are present.

If you or the client have a Mac, I would try P2 Log to see if it can repair the card contents by creating a new LASTCLIP.TXT file and bitmaps for the ICON folder.

Let me know if that doesn't work, I bet I could rig something up manually if needed.

Once again, someone has failed to properly copy the files. It drives me batty when people decide that they will only copy certain directories instead of the whole clip! Please, everyone, educate any P2 users you run into, that whenever copying the footage they MUST copy the ENTIRE CONTENTS directory. In fact, you should be using P2CMS or P2 Viewer to do the copying, and these user errors would never ever happen again.

Okay, back onto your question: P2 Log Pro or TEP HD or Raylight should be able to rescue the files. But your original thumbnail, and your metadata, are probably gone.

The thumbnail normally consists of the first frame of the clip, so that's no big loss. The HVX (if that is what was used) also doesn't record PROXY information, so again no biggie.

The real bummer is the loss of the metadata, but the audio and video should be salvageable.

Could the files have been recorded on a firestore? I've had projects coming in that havent been converted to P2 file structure. I either case, raylight can help.
