Help on two questions - Dvx and tape transfer

I'm finishing up a film in PA, but I'm not in the locaton so a friend of mine is going to help wrap up the project.

Question one:

John was talking about doing a color match apparently the dvx100A is very much like the dvx100 except that it won't have the trouble with the white-outs that I
had. All those problems with the light have been fixed in this dvx100A.

Question two:

John needs copies of the raw footage that we shot. I was going to download the copies onto my Powerbook G4 and then back onto another blank Mini dv tape. I have not notice any difference in lost when I edited parts of the film and re-downloaded it and play it back on a overhead projector.

John says if we transfer to mini dv we will loose some of the picture quality in the compression. Is this True???????

You shouldn't have problems color matching the two DVX100s.

Am I reading this right, and you have 2 DVX100 cams? If so just connect them with a firewire cable and make your copy that way.

I have only one dvx100. John needs copies of the raw footage (he has the dvx100A) so I need to download them into my laptop and from there back load them onto a blank mini dv.

I'm in a different state then he is so I'm having to mail them to him.

John is saying that when I copy the tape that I will lose picture quality?

Going from camera to NLE timeline and straight back to camera should not alter the footage from its native form. You aren't rendering anything. If nothing else, keep your dubs as the backup then mail off the original.

From what I can tell, Adam Wilt agrees (link)
