Help! No Timecode! Project Deadline today!

Hey folks, hoping someone can offer some quick advice. A friend and I shot on our DVX100b's and used custom timecode (we were on a shoot last week and the director wanted custom timecode). If I remember correctly we turned of Regen and entered starting timecode 01:00:00:00. Timecode was running while we were shooting. When my friend went to tapelog on her GS150, timecode was all 00:00:00:00. Tried to capture in FCP but couldn't because no timecode. She put the tapes back in the DVX and timecode appeared.

Anyone know what the problem is and if the tape is played in something other than a DVX if timecode will not show up. We have to tapelog and get these tapes to the editor by this afternoon, but are afraid they won't be able to do anything with it because of the timecode problem

Thanks!

Well if the DVX works then just do it that way. Dont screw a deadline to save a few hours on the heads.

Thanks for the response, ncje. Actually we have to send the original tapes to the editor. So we were thinking of taping tape to tape in hopes that new timecode would be laid down on the copy. What do you think?

That would work... but it seems like a hassle. This happened to me before, also. I shot on DVX, tried to capture through a consumer canon cam, and it couldn't read the timecode. Strange thing is, is I played the tape back in my DVX, saw the timecode so I decided to try it again in the canon, and it worked. I have no idea why, but it did. Maybe try to fast forward the tape a bit, rewind it again, and see if it'll work that time.

Just an idea. Good luck.

Interesting. I have been having similar issues... I have been trying to capture footage on my PV-GS120, but the camera also does not display the timecode. All zeros.

Maybe because the footage was shot in 24pa? Can anyone explain this?

This will be a real problem for me, because I really do not want to use the DVX100B to capture.

I will give it another go, but... The GS-120 doesn't seem to like 30p or 24p(normal), either... When reviewing footage on the camera (when not hooked up to FCP), it doesn't display timecode either.

Yik. Yea, it definitely doesn't work... and this is definitely problematic, because now I don't have any capturing solutions other than using the DVX itself.
