Help -- No Audio!

For some reason, in camera mode, I'm not getting ANY audio signals from the either the internal mic or an external mic. I've tried everything (I think).

(However, I can play back a tape, and hear the audio and monitor the sound levels.)

Any advice out there?

(I am tempted to use the "reset" button on the camera. I have never used it -- any reason to avoid it?)

Thanks much!!

What position are your audio selct switches in? They need to be in the INT for the internal mic. Mic 1 or 2 for the external. Also check to see if those are set up for mic or line. Set up your display so that you see the audio bars on the lower left and that way you can tell when you are finally successful at getting audio. If your audio is in manual, have you brought up the volume to record levels.

Is this a new camera to you? Was it working yesterday but not today?

Hope this helps,

Jan

Thanks for your message, Jan...

The audio switches are set to INT now, though I also tried connecting my external mic (while also setting the switches to Mic, etc) to see if that would work. The display is already set up to show the bars, but at the moment all you can see are "ch1, ch2" but nothing else. Recording levels are turned up all the way. Still, however, no sound.

I've had the camera since September last year. The last time I did any recording was a month ago (in India), and it was fine then. I did take the camera out another time since, but just to play back a tape. Otherwise, the camera has just been sitting in its case. Nothing odd has happened, though I have been traveling internationally for some time...

Is there anything else I should try?

Thanks so much for your help!

You checked the little switch on the front of the camer to make sure it is in mic and not line position? If so, and still no audio, then it sounds like a trip to the service shop is in order.

Sorry,

Jan

Thanks, Jan. I just double-checked the switches and still no sound. I am in Tibet until July -- far from any service shops -- and was planning on using my camera on a film project. Do you think it'd be possible to ask a technician to walk me thru some diagnostics?

I appreciate all your help -- so thanks again.

I think you will need to figure out where there might be a service shop in Tibet. or somewhere nearby. A talk though won't fix it.

Sorry,

Jan
