help no audio through headphones

Hi, not been on for a while...I have an 897 mike and was redording with a boom, and when I was recording I couldn't get anything out of the headphones though the jck socket in the camera, but when I wastched tape back, it had sound and I could hear it through the headphones...has camera got a fault, or is it a setting or something for monitoring sound though headphones...

sorry, been reading through the posts, andyes I have the volume turned up, becasue I hear the playback, just can't monitor durig filming...though looking through posts, was wondering, about monitoring sound through side jack, how is this done, aren't they only inputs...not outputs..please help...

Have you checked the scene file settings for the scene file you had it set on? many times they have changed on me without me knowing. Give me more info on Camera being used, etc....

the camera is just a normal panasonic DVX100E, I'm interested in how you can plug in headphones to side XLR connections I think....will check out the scene settings...thanks for that..what could be switched though to stop audio monitoring thourgh an external mike...

You don't connect the headphones to the side xlr connections. Those are for the microphones. You use the pin jack under a plastic cover at the back of the camera. That should be in your manual.

It is the back jack I have been using, and that I can't monitor the sound with, but I thought I read on the forums that people have been plugging nto the XLRs, am I istaken in this, I think I read to use a female to male adaptor...

dude. there is no way to get sound out from an input. the xlr's are mic/line inputs. the rca's output sound, but you'll want to connect that output to a mixer or at least a headphone amp.

Back Headphone Jack

He's right, the headphone jack for monitoring OR playing back in camera on VCR mode should be coming brom the mini jack on the back of the camera under the plastic cap. The only reason I can think of why you are not hearing anything while monitoring while you are in record mode is if the source is too loud and it is overpowering the headphones. Check the headphones plugged into a cd player to make sure thier output is actually occurring at all first. The side jacks that are RCA outputs are only for hooking up a monitor say to hear what is happening during a record session, or to hear the playback of what you have already recorded through a monitor after the fact. Theoretically, you could take the mini jack output and amplify it to hear audio, it IS in stereo.

ok, I didn;t think you could hear the sound that way, it's the rca connections, I misread...is there though any setting I might have switched accidently that deactivated the headphones for monitoring during recording, the sound level was pretty normal..just dialogue...

Well, there are the +/- buttons on top of the camera near the VCR controls. That's the only output volume controls I can find.

But your 2nd post leads me to believe you've already tried that.

(The book says they can't be adjusted when in Camera mode, so switch to VCR first. Maybe that's the problem?)

No idea if this will help....I've never tried them.

Dan
