MUSIC VIDEO: HELP! Need honest feedback on a pop/dance music video sample ASAP!

There are some technical issues with the project. First of all the image quality itself is not very good, most likely due to the camera you used. This can cause the talent to appear slightly out of focus (soft) which is distracting and causes the actors to begin to blend into the background and not pop out. It is possible that focus wasn't set enough as well, but from my eyes it appears to be an image quality problem.

As for the greenscreen work, i've seen much worse but there are still some issues, mostly apparent when the girl in white walks around him.

The outfits were hit or miss. The guys are mostly fine, nice and simple. The best outfit is definitely the girl laying on the couch. It's simple, sexy, and the gold shirt creates a nice pop. Unfortunately the outfit of the girl singing in the first greenscreen video is horrible. It does not suit her figure at all, the colors are blah and blend together, her hair seems a mess, and everything about it just doesn't work.

The lighting itself was not bad, in most cases you got a nice even fill which fits this type of video. The biggest problem with lighting was the scene on the stairs, which is understandable because lighting a space that large is difficult and requires a lot of gear.

Now that probably seems like a lot of issues, but honestly all of those sins could be at least somewhat forgiven if the performances themselves were exciting. Unfortunately the performances here are very bland, and that is ultimately the downfall of what you have. The guy is awkward and doesn't perform the sex appeal necessary to pull off what he's saying, and the girl singing in the first greenscreen video looks downright bored. Their lack of energy completely sucks the energy out of the video. Perhaps you were afraid of them overperforming, and I completely understand that (especially as someone that just directed my first music video), but you needed more out of them. At least the girl in the gold shirt tried to be seductive and actually moved her body around. Perhaps the answer to this would have been to give them more physical tasks to perform, or to help them feel more comfortable in what they were doing.

Out of curiosity, when you were shooting were the talent actually singing their parts? Or were they just lipsincying/singing to themselves? I found while I was shooting a video recently that you absolutely have to get them to legitimately perform the lyrics, as they would when they were recording it. This can really bring out their energy and informs their decisions with their bodies.

Forgive me if this seems so harsh. I've been editing my own music video for the past week and part of this is my own frustration with that. If this is the first music video you've done it's really not that bad. I actually really like the title sequence, that was the highlight for me.

Hey there! Don't worry I'm not offended in the least!

Let's see, where do I start.

The camera is cheap so the quality isn't going to be awesome. The best it's going to look is when you watch the videos in HQ.

For the lighting I used photo lights a friend lent me. I white balanced every scene, hit record, and crossed my fingers lol.

The lack of performance, I really tried. I seriously gave every direction possible because I wanted them to actually go for it but two of them just couldn't go there. I even went as far as showing them movements and leaving them alone with the camera and it just wasn't happening. They were too nervous and brand new to being in front of a camera to relax and get down.

The singing they were doing live.

Oh and the outfits, I agree, that's what they brought though. Since this was shot for $100 bucks (which was only used on the motion video backgrounds and that's it), we reeeeeally worked with what we had or could borrow.

I'm pretty sure we are going to re-shoot the green-screen stuff soon, probably cut those parts out completely and just do more shots around the house. We are on the same page, I think I just needed to hear it from strangers to confirm my fears lol. Thanks!
