I need some serious HMC150 advice. I just shot a wedding 720p 30fps and logged and transfered in FCP 7:shocked:. Footage is wrapped in Apple ProRes 422.
when i send to compressor and use "best 90 minute" the footage looks like crappy VHS aliased film in DVD SP when watching on a normal DVD player.
I've tried 40 different work-arounds to NO avail. I'm at the end of my rope. I have a client breathing down my neck but I don't want to give them VHS looking footage when I filmed on HD.

One more thing the slo-mo footage is also jagged and not smooth like you would expect in progressive mode.

I am surely not the only one experiencing this issue.

If you shoot on the HMC150 and 720p 30 going to DVD SP I would LOVE your advice and insights before I go totally crazy.
thanks for any and all advice.

Any chance you can show us a short segement of the "crappy VHS" effect? You're right, one would expect it to automatically work, but with the vast array of potential input formats and output formats, NLE's don't always default to the proper choices.

That said, I'm not a Mac person (I've used FCP a little a year ago, that's it) so I'm not sure how helpful I'll be.

Vimeo.com you can upload footage.... post the link to it here...

Usually compressor is best practice when compressing and converting. We shot a wedding in 720/30p and had little issue with the DVD quality. It actually looked really good using the FCP suite.

For nice slo mo you must shoot 720/60p and not use 30p. If slo mo my 25p stuff it looks crap, 30p will be minimally better but 50/60p is meant for slo mo. The only other way to get great slo mo from 24/25 or 30p stuff is to use a program like twixtor.

Uploading to Vimeo will actually re-transcode your footage and likely hide your issue. Export a 5 or 10 second clip, then right-click and compress it to a zip file, and upload it with www.yousendit.com

Any chance you can also read off the exact settings you're using? I know you said the "90 minute best" preset but not owning the software that doesn't tell me much. Do you see 'advanced', or 'details', or something that lists frame dimensions (resolution, like 720x480), interlacing settings (progressive/upper/lower), frame rate (29.97), etc?
