Help - missing clips from SxS-1 card

Hello everyone, need urgent help.

The camera is a EX1R and the card is a SBS-32G1. Which claims on the card case that you get 100 minutes of recording HQ.

The camera user shot material, about 40 minutes worth, and says the clips were there. 2 days later when they went to copy to a harddrive - the clips vanished.

I've searched the internet and apparently this has happened to a few others.

When I put the card in a computer/card reader with Clip browser (MAC) it shows that there is 25.5 gigs available and that around 5.2 have been used.

However there are no clips on there at all, either when looking on VTR mode on camera or in clip browser.

Is there anyway to access this card or try to retrieve data? What does everyone think?

Any help would be great, since it's very very important footage.

Thanks
Mike

My questions:
1. Did the user check the clips prior or he/she thought it was there ? I meant sometimes we thought we pushed the record button, but we did not :Drogar-Angry(DBG):
2. Can you view/watch the clips on camera ? If you can watch any clip, I assume the user did not format the card by accident.

IF the user made mistake to delete or format the card, you can try couple restore programs: File Restore, File Scavenger... I tried it before and I was be able to recover files after format. As long as you did not record something over format or delete.

Good lucks,
tuy
notes: IF you still can not recover the file, I think Sony should be able to do so - with the price. Just give them a call.

The user claims he didn't do that and the clips were there when he played back.

When I put the card in, there was nothing, not a single clip, but showed 5.3 gigs were used. So that makes me think, if he indeed deleted or formated, there should be the usual 30-32 gigs available. ALso weird that it says there is 90 minutes of recording time off a card that gives 100 minutes at HQ. Again if deleted or reformatted shouldn't it show more.

I've called Sony, which were very helpful and they redirected me to a Media Retrieval Center. Now dealing with them, but since it's the weekend, probably will have to wait til Monday.

Would using something like File Restore or Scavenger prohibit Sony from doing what they can do??

Just looked on internet and both File Restore and Scavenger are PC based. Does anyone know of a successful MAC program fore restoring lost data?

Mike,
Other question: was the memory card exposed to any magnetic field or near a strong current which may partially erase the clips ?

90 min of recording time for 5.3GB, it must be SD quality and not HD (HQ). I don't have EX1R, but I believed the EX1R can record the DVCam quality. Oh can you try it on PC - connect by USB to the camera usb port ?

last, those recover program won't harm the memory card - It read only mode.

Sorry maybe my writing wasn't clear, 5.3 gigs have been used and 25.5 are still available for availability of recording time of 91 minutes @ 1920-24p. So there is still 91 minutes left to shoot for the remainder 25 gigs available. Its not in SD mode.

Magnetic fields and strong currents-- this I don't know since I've rented the camera out, however, they are shooting behind the scenes on a feature film.

Thanks for the input and your thoughts.

The plot thickens -

I gave the user a new card to shoot with. I checked his footage. There were some 35 clips taken, but right in the middle of the batch about 10 were missing!!! Under the thumbnail it said "Unknown Format".

User never changed any settings. Camera is going back to Sony. Meanwhile have to figure out how to try to retrieve footage from this card.
