Help me spend my microbudget...

Hey everybody. I am longtime lurker/first time poster. Here's my deal: my budget is roughly $1400, I already own a D90 w/ a bunch of lenses and have access to a HVR A1U and a Glidecam 4000. My buddy (who also has a D90) and I have a photography business - we mostly shoot bands and we do the occasional video thing here and there - live shows. interviews, epk promo stuff etc - we're working on a music video right now that's being shot primarily w/ the D90's. Anyways I want to pick up more gigs doing events - concerts and nightclub stuff as well as as many music videos as I can. Anyways, long story short, I want to pick up a dedicated video camera and I'm torn about which direction to go - here's what I'm thinking my options are: Used DVX100/a/b, Used XL1/2, spend a little more and get a new HMC70 or go a completely different route and pick up a pair of HV30/40's and trick em out when I have more cash. I was settled on a HMC40 but at this time, my budget won't allow it and I've got a couple gigs in March so I'm trying to pull the trigger on this asap w/ the budget I do have. Sorry this is a little long winded and i wasn't sure where exactly to post it but I wanted to give as much info as I could before I ask for everybody's input. Thanks in advance. Peace!

Craigslist for real. I bought my 100b with 24hrs on it, a tripod, two lenses (2.5x and telephoto), a hard case for the 100b, three piece filter kit and accesories bag for $1500. He even excepted payments, lol. He was a really cool businessman though, you dont come across those everyday.

I second that!

I started getting some dedicated camera's for shooting the band i work for, and started with a PDX10 from this guy who was really cool and gave me tons of extras like a case, lenses, shoulder mount with LANC controller etc... And i also found an Xl1s with like 30hours for a steal as well as a 100A both i am going to try and pick up this week.

sorry i didnt help with WHICH camera to get but CL can be a good place to look! I too have the same question as you and even though the Xl1s and DVX are older they are the best in they're class so thats why i went with them. Plus i cant edit HD dont have to comp for it so SD will do. i was too really thinking about a few HV30's and tricking them out but they would only be good for Overhead or static shots really...

This said, low light ability of a camera would be of importance in your line of work.

Thanks for your replies everybody - I've been on craigslist @ least every 5 minutes for the last 3+ years so I'm def. up on that. I guess my biggest dilemma is HD or not. The new HD cams in my price range - at least ones that are semi pro looking for event gigs etc are the HMC70 and Sony HD1000 which don't really lend themselves to the whole music video thing as they only shoot 1080i60.
