Help me out - Timelapse

other then it being a it dark, what could be wrong with it? It looks GREAT dude!

What settings did you use for it? Looks like 60i...

Eric - that's the thing, something about it just feels OFF to me, its one of those things that nags at you at the back of your brain, its almost like its good but theres SOMETHING... agh is there anything that just sort of sticks out to you at all or anything?

Maybe its just me (i have been working on this thing for like 50000 hours straight practically)

EDIT: Cof - yah it was shot at 60i, I think 24p blurs fast moving objects too much, also I needed lots of slow motion stuff for this part of the video.

Only looking on my laptop, as not near an editing suite with a video monitor, it looks fine if a little dark like "coffee" says. Maybe you are getting a little too self-critical on what will be a very short section of the whole video? I maybe wouldn't use the first bit of it unless it happens to fit well with the music at that point, as cars are too far away to register the full speeded up effect.

Have you thought of masking off the sky and then lightening up just the dark part of the picture? Also might be good to get faster cloud movement at the same time. If you did lose the first part of the clip, you could time squeeze the full length of the clouds into the shorter cliptime, and use the same masking to comp the two together.

Just another thought - it looks dark, but there are no lights on anywhere. So maybe subconsciously this feels odd. Lightening the non-sky bits slightly, but keeping the clouds moody might help if this is the case.

yes this will be cut up, right now this is the full unedited timelapse. Maybe it is that it's too dark due to not having any lights around or something... I don't know... I'll try out the clouds suggestion thanks

I meant that as it appears dark like it's late in the day or there's a storm brewing, I would maybe expect to see some car head and tail lamps, a few streetlamps on, and lights maybe in some building windows.

well... everyones already said it's a little dark.... other than that, I think it looks really cool, I just wish maybe the clouds were moving faster? idunno.

If there wwere NO cloud movement then I'd say something about that but there are clouds and they're active so it's all good.

Liked the look of it. Did look a tad dark. But I guess it really only matters how it looks on a NTSC monitor. What other time-lapse stuff are you planing to do for this video?

Don't be a shmuck now! (coming from someone with the exact same problem hie hie).

I thought it looked very good.

I must say though ericyoungs got a very good idea there. if their tail lamps or head lights were on it could add some color to the sequence.

But the timelapse looks very natural. I like it.

Thanks,
Derrick

I am going to have to semi-agree with eric young, I think you should try to mask the sky and change brightness levels, but I dont beleive its a nessecity. I do not beleive however that you should speed the clouds up, I beleive you should leave them at the speed that they were filmed at. I may not understand the thematics or the context in which this shot fits into its purpose, but from an agreeable stand point, this shot looks good because of the relationship of the cars moving too fast, (this is my spin on the theory and reasoning of the shot) I feel in order for this shot to make sense to viewers subconciously, it has to be the world that is at a standpoint, no movment, and the cars that are flying past it. Which is what you have acheived, but with the clouds still moving, it splits the viewers understanding of the shot. I beleive only the cars should apear to be moving fast, the setting as well as clouds should be at a stand-still. This might(in my opinion) be why you subconciously feel something is off.

hope this helps

I checked it out on the TV and it looks fine, not too dark like it does in QT. Hmmm I think maybe I was just burnt out, looking at it again it looks nice. Hm oh well thanks anyways, another pointless thread.

I will try your idea dyr in reference to the clouds at a standstill and see if that looks better or whatnot. I'm actually kinda happy with it now though.... wierd oh well thanks anyways.
