Help me evaluate theses 5DMKII clips

Hello

I am running some tests Tracking / Panning on a 5DMKII w/ 24-105. I need an opinion regarding the image quality as I am very new to video so I am not sure if these clips look fine or not. If these clips look bad please let me know, as well as what I can do to make them better. If you think these look fine, please, let me know that also. I am asking for advice because I have very limited experience with video so it's kind of like wine tasting when you are only familiar with scotch.

I was consciously trying to pan/track as smooth as I could but I think all the clips look juddery and soft focus when the camera is moving. On TrackPan_01 the shutter speed is 1/30 on TrackPan_02 the shutter speed is 1/60. I brought everything into MPEG Streamclip and converted to AIC to edit in FCE. I exported to H.264. If you need further info to evaluate the clips please let me know.

TrackPan_01 1/30 IS on http://vimeo.com/6023103

TrackPan_02 1/60 IS off http://vimeo.com/6035116

I am seriously considering exchanging the 5D for a Panasonic HMC150

Thank you!

They look as smooth as any 30p I have shot with any other camcorder. You are going to see a certain amount of judder or flicker because of the 30p and depending on the shutter speed. Looks fine to me.

I downloaded the originals from vimeo and output them to a large LCD TV and they look real smooth. H264 remember takes quite a lot of horsepower and even then tends to be jittery or stuttery from time to time. Not including monitor refresh issues etc. And vimeo well ... its real jittery.

IS should always be off if panning from a tripod.

you need to turn your clips to pro res or AIC and watch them in FCP on a decent computer

then you will know if t the camera
