Help! Importing from HMC40 to FCP 6

Hey,
So sorry this is literally a camera/editing for dummies question, but I'm totally baffled and need some step by step guidance or a link to a really useful, simple site...

I have recently bought an HMC40. I have FCP 6 on a macbook pro (fairly old one).
I want to capture the footage but I am confused by the entire process and cannot find a simple guide.

What I have done is literally copy and paste the Folder PRIVATE into a folder on my computer (well an external hardrive) but how do I now open that in FCP and work with it?

I appreciate any guidance and wlll respond quickly with info you need! (And apologies if you see this twice, I will also post in the Panasonic section..)

THANKS

Because you have indicated you are editing in FCP 6, which is FCS2, you'll need this pdf document from Panasonic:

ftp://ftp.panasonic.com/pub/Panasonic/Drivers/PBTS/papers/AVCHD_Editing_FCP_2_Workflow.pdf

I am assuming you have an Intel MacBook Pro. If you do, log and transfer, to my knowledge, does not provide an option to transcode HMC40 files to DVCProHD - just pro res, and AIC I believe. And of course, you'll need a Intel Mac to convert to pro res. You cannot convert to DVCProHD in the log and transfer function using AVCHD/Private folder from the HMC40

There is a conversion utility from Panasonic, I believe, that will transcode to mxf format, but that doesn't occur within FCP.

If you want to go to DVCProHD directly from the mts files, try the demo for ClipWrap2.

Note again, that there is no DVCProHD option within that log and transfer function for converting AVCHD footage and you do need an Intel Mac to convert to Pro Res.

Are you using an Intel MacBookPro, because you indicated that you had a "fairly old" MacBook Pro.
