HELP! Image is purple - camera broken?

Hi guys,

I'm filming a missions trip in Bali and am having some problems with my AF102. I was filming the team playing sport in a hot sports centre.. I was sweating a bit and some sweat got on the camera.

Camera then had an error message come up and told me to turn it off. I turned it off and left it for a little bit (15 minutes or so), then turned the camera back on and it wouldn't turn on. Eventually it turned back on (after several attempts) but it didn't give me an image. Now the camera turns on but gives me this purple image.

Is this something that will fix itself if I leave the camera in my hotel room with the AC on, or could there be some sort of permanent damage to the censor? When I go in playback mode the screen is showing everything fine and playing back my last clips perfect... but now when I record clips, they looks purple when I record, and purple when I watch them back.

Any tips to get this working? And yes, we have prayed for it to start working again :) Appreciate any wisdom from DVXUser.

The sweat may or may not have had anything to do with it. High heat and humidity are a bad combination for electronics. Especially if you took your camera from a cool air conditioned hotel room into the heat and humidity of the day while the camera was off. That transition can cause condensation on the electronics and cause temporarily malfunction or permanentl damage. Think about the sweat on the outside of a cold soda can when you pull it from the refrigerator. That may be the inside of your camera when you take it from the cool, dry hotel room to the 94% humidity.

The only hope you have is to get the camera in warm, dry environment and apply a breeze (fan) to drive out the moisture. This can take a few hours or a few days. Even though cooler, an air conditioned room is suitable as it has lower humidity.

You may get lucky and it will recover.

The camera fixed itself last night and was working properly, but this morning I've turned it on and it's back to giving me a pink/purple image. We had the air conditioner on all night and not sure if that has helped it or not.

You CAN NOT take electronics from a cool dry environment and place them quickly into a hot humid one like this without condensation problems. If it is cool and dry now I would put it in a case (or improvise something similar) and put it in a the hot environment so it has time to slowly heat up. The temperature itself the camera should be able to handle, its the fast change that is causing the problem.

As above.

Living in the UK, when I order lenses or whatever online and they arrive to my door step in to my heated home. As soon as I take the glass out of the package the whole front and rear elements mist up immediately. You are meant to let the electronic device gradually warm up to the temperature you plan to use it in.

Thanks for the advice. Camera is working properly again, but being a little temprimental. I turned the camera on a couple of times and the image was screwy, but it eventually comes good. I normally just have to take the battery out, then the camera turns on and the LCD screen is pure white, and then I do a black balance and the image appears. So might need to call the insurance company when I get home.

So the camera came back to life and worked (still does?) for the rest of the trip!

Here is the highlight video I have produced of the trip. Shot with a lens turbo and carl zeiss lenses (35mm and 85mm): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DiS68TpVKS8

Camera stopped working after the indoor soccer shots... but then came back to life for the rest of the video.
