I just bought a Mac Book I am running FCE 4 on the mac book ...but i run final Cut Pro on my I Mac.....how do i capture directly into FCE 4....what setting on the Camera / FCE 4.....and also I am shooting in 30P is FCE 4 compatible with 30p

Thank You!!

Well, it works pretty much like FCP, except that you only have "Capture Now" and no "Log and Capture." 30P will work in FCE, just set up a standard DV NTSC 48kHz 29.97 project. FCE will not remove pull-down and cannot edit at 23.98, so as long as you stay with 60i or 30p, you're fine. And yes, you can use 24p normal and edit as 29.97, though you do sacrifice smoothness by doing that.

NOTE: If you got one of the Macbook models that has no FireWire, there's not much you can do...

I have firewire...when i hook the 100B to the laptop and open FCE...how do i capture the footage..when i try to capture it says must be in VTR mode...whats the steps to capturing to the laptop

Thanks!!

How have you captured to your iMac? It's really not that different. Yes, the camera has to be in VTR mode and not CAM mode. And I'd get a FireWire drive that has two FW connections. Computer>FW Drive>Camera. Never use your internal drive for media.

In FCE, File>Capture. Then you enter your clip information, start the tape playing (a few seconds before you want to start capturing), and when it gets to the start of the clip you hit Capture Now. Then hit ESC at the end of the clip.

I think you are miss under standing by question or i worded it wrong

I want to capture to FCE on my lop Top ( Without a tape ) capture live directly to hard drive...I know it can be done just not sure the correct way to do it.

Make sure you have DEVICE CONTROL (long and capture, capture settings tab) set to NON-CONTROLLABLE DEVICE.

Then use capture now.

I will add my standard warning... this IS NOT A GOOD IDEA, but yes, it is done. If something goes wrong you are HOSED. No backup... nothing.
