Help: I can't use dissolves...

Hi all-

I am putting together a memorial video for grandmother's funeral. It is all photographs and so I decided to edit in a 24p timeline so when viewed on a computer it would be the highest resolution. I imported the files as 10 sec files.

Now I am trying to do a cross dissolve between pictures and it is telling me that I have no head or tail material to do a dissolve?

WTF? It's a photograph so it doesn't seem like it should matter. What do I do to get around this, so I can add dissolves.

Please respond as soon as you can. I've got to get this video together by Sunday 6/4/06. In the mean times I'll do a search.

Thanks

Eric

When you import your photos and set a length, AVID actually converts your photos to footage of that length. It's not an infinite timeline. So in essence, you only have ten seconds of video for each photo to play with. That is definetely not enough to have a head or tail.

You need to import each photo at 30 seconds or greater and use 10 seconds in the MIDDLE of your photo as the actually footage, giving you a 10 second handle at the head and tail for dissolving.

****. I figured out what I did just after I posted this. I forgot that the clip length and the timeline length should be different to do dissolves. I just dropped the photos in and thought I could add dissolves but there's not material there to do so.

Anybody got any ideas on how I can fix this without have to re-import and resequence all the shots? I have like 50 photos in the timeline which I've already put in chronological order. I thought 10 secs duration would be sufficient but I probably need about 20 seconds to do a nice slow dissolve which IMO is good for a more somber, reflective type of video.
