All,

Am working on a commercial for a non-profit organization. So I need help, tips & ideas on how I should frame the shots, light it and stuff like that.

The commercial should surround this concept.

Theme : "Stand Out"

"To encourage the youth and young adults to pursue Godliness and to go against the prevailing culture even if it results in feelings of discomfort and rejection by their peers and society in general, and to inspire them to use their God-given gifts and talents to make a difference in their school, the nation and the world at large."

Jamaine,

It would appear on first glance that you haven't got a story together yet that you want to capture. You have a hugely subjective concept. You need a premise. You need character/s. You need to do a lot more work before folks can chime in about lighting a given scene and so forth. In fact once you story board your piece you may very well answer many of your own questions.

And since you included that quote ( from where?) in the end of your post. I'll state right here that I disagree with that. The challenge is not to go against culture but to blend with it and live within it: isn't that everyone's challenge?

Good Luck!

I too will iterate the suggestion that you have to have A Story which presents/depicts the qualities in your 'concept' line. I also have problems with you concept in general. I think in the US there is plenty of opportunity for 'god-given' talents to be developed, and very little peer press, rejection, discomfort given, provided those 'talents' are approved by good christians... if on the other hand one's god given talents are for stripping... there's plenty of rejection, disapproval, and pressure in society to be come a drug addicted outcast.

Guys am not living the US, the non-profit is now actually getting the script together, once I get that I'll post it & let you guys know. Looking forward to your help!! Jesus Christ love you brothers.

Ok guys is here the script I got, no I need assistance with putting them together in 60sec ad. I pretty much new to this so any help given would be appreciated, it is a challenge but am not backing down.

Concept

The “normal” students appear in the background while the “Stand Out” student is in the forefront portraying the “Stand Out” theme.

Scene 1 – Respect teachers3 students in the background are showing disrespect (giving attitude) to the teacher while the “Stand Out” student is talking to the teacher and smiling.

Scene 2 – Paying attention in classThe entire class is sleeping as the teacher is teaching while the “Stand Out” student is paying attention to what is being taught by the teacher.

Scene 3 – A good friend
Some students are fighting in the background while the “Stand Out” student is helping another student with schoolwork.

Scene 4 – Abstains from sexual acts3 young couples are cuddling in the background while the “Stand Out” student is hanging out with a mixed group of friends laughing and having fun.

Scene 5 – OutreachSome students are littering while the “Stand Out” student is cleaning up.

This is not a script, it is a unrefined shot list.

How is the audio portion of this commercial going to be handled?
Is an announcer going to do a voiceover something like.... Stand Out is making a difference in the lives of today's youth, by providing the guidance, encouragement, and discipline needed to inspire young adults everywhere to use their God given gifts and talents to make a difference in their.....???

Once you have a finalized script then everything else will fall into place.

God Luck!

Ok David I live in the Caribbean , so am actually a self taught filmmaker, so I hope you don't mind me asking questions, that might seem silly or something I should have already know.

So basically a example of the script would say : A Group of students are taking stand against something, in a class room somewhere , while others are choosing to rebel against Jesus principles, etc etc.

Then the next to do would be to create the shot list similar to what I have in the earlier post.

I will most likely write and shoot most of my short films that I will be able to make. However, as part of the discipline, and to receive feed back from others, I write in a 'standard' screenplay format. I use Celtx, a free scriptwriting program, to get the script 'mostly formatted' to modern script writing standards.

With that in mind, here's an example of what most people may think of when one uses the word 'script'.
The use of "FADE TO:" is frowned upon these days for 'general script writing", but I've used it in regard to this example for brevity.

[scrippet]
INT. CLASSROOM - DAY
JOE, 15, sits at a desk, focused on his work.
In the back ground DALE and FRED fight, and the rest of the class crowds around the combatants.
MR. STEVENS enters the room, and only JOE looks up in his direction.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
Where will you be in ten years?
FADE TO:
INT. PRISON DAY ROOM - DAY
Dale and Fred fight, as the other prisoners yell encouragement to Dale or Fred.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
Or will you be somewhere else?
FADE TO:
INT. SUBURBAN HOUSE LIVINGROOM - NIGHT
Joe, along with MILLY, 20's, watch their two children play.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
You can choose.
[/scrippet]

The example is pretty cliche'd and appeals to stereotype, but heck it's only an example.
