Help for a scratched LCD?

Just got back from a location. Sometime during the shoot one of the PAs threw my iKan monitor in a duffel bag with a bunch of camera and monitor batteries. The screen got a bit scuffed up.

No, I didn't kill him, but I don't feel justified asking him to replace it either.

Any home remedies/techniques to reduce the damage?

This may sound like im kidding you but im not; place a small drop of some plain toothpaste (no gels) right on the lcd and gently buff it with a non-abrasive cloth and you should start seeing the scratches disapear. You may need to repeat the process a few times but it works on most clear plastics. Then just take a damp towel to remove the remaing toothpaste.

WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Before you try it, let me test it on a broken monitor I have. It has the same screen material. This way you know what it will work without making more damage. I will give it a try, then tell you if it actually works. I will try regular crest first, then what ever else I have. hang in there till this eve. I will postme results with pics.

Jim, Hunter's idea works, but make sure it's not an aggressive toothpaste. Another option:

I use this stuff everyday at work. And it still amazes me how good it is. The abrasive in the scratch remover is much finer than toothpaste. You'll pay 20 bucks for the 3 bottles, but well worth the expense, when dealing with scratches in plastic.

Thanks for the tips guys.

Maranfilms: I'd love to see the results of that. It's good to know what will work in a pinch.

Steven. Great tip. I'll order that stuff. I'm sure it won't be the last time I'll need it.

What do you mean by "non-abrasive cloth"? SHould it be a lens cloth, or will a soft cloth like a diaper or washcloth do?

Some people use nail polish to remove scratches on their wacom tablets.
I don't know, just passing it along.

BTW, tootpaste removes "Sharpie" pen ink from wood furniture if you let your kids in your office and turn your back for a minute....

There's a liquid polymer eyeglasses-repair stuff that comes in little superglue-style bottles - of course I can't remember the name but it's a hardware-store item...

...usually a little drop will fill scratches under surface tension, and it makes for a good repair - in optical glass or plastic, anyway.
