I have the ex1, several sxs cards and a mac book pro - am I correct to understand that final cut pro studio and the download from sony for fcp 6 is all I should need?? along with a lot of reading and practice

I have vegas 8 on a laptop w/express card slot but from what I read fcs is the best solution.

Adobe Systems released, just this week, an major update to Premiere Pro CS3 which is even more than I had hoped for.. Full XDCam EX support, performance enhancements that make it possible to do color grading and play back unrendered clips off the timeline in realtime and excellent quality.

The tables have turned completely around, now that Adobe is on board. The upgrade is really, really good. I've been running it all week and doing stuff I never used to do even with HDV footage because of the formerly-sluggish performance with effects applied to the timeline. Not anymore. A huge sense of freedom to be creative and very productive. Best upgrade ever, from Adobe.

As for Final Cut Pro, the latest version is EX1-capable and is said to run pretty smoothly on a laptop. Vegas works too, but for some folks like myself, the user interface just doesn't fit with our style of editing.
