Help! Fix Weird modulation and 32 bit???

Wondering if anyone has run into this. Not sure if it was from the wireless lav or something from the capture. (Recorded on XHA1 with Lectro wireless, I think... wasn't me.)

When I first brought it into Logic it wouldn't play and says it was 48k 32 bit, so does quicktime. Only when I converted it to 48k 16bit using compressor or itunes did it play.
It's nearly impossible to clean up due to the pitch modulated double voice... and popping on every word. Oye...

Any ideas?

You have the original 48/32 file? Have you tried listening to the audio off from the XHA1 after you've recorded this?
 
Yes, the AIFF file sent to me was 48/32.
I haven't listened off the cam. I don't have it, but I've asked the editor to check.
 
Certainly ask the editor to check the audio off from the cam source. What you ought to do is redo the bit convert and see if you're getting the same results at 48/24 instead of 48/16. Since everything has already been recorded, you can't do much to improve the state of the audio files. It sounds like a huge 60Hz ground loop either caused by the camera or from the Lectro wireless - I've had this happened before when shooting with the notorious consumer-only line level XHA1 camera, but what we're hearing sounds more complicated than just ground loops, possiby circuitry problem with the preamps off of the camera and/or wireless outputs.

Were they monitoring the sound while shooting this?
 
Found out it was actually on the AF100. I think the original recording was the same. I don't think I've encountered a ground loop from gear that was running on batteries. ?
I'm pretty sure I've heard this same 'effect' from the wireless they use before. Too bad there was no on-camera audio, it might be better than this.

It is typically better to post an uncompressed sample (like WAV) to avoid any additional compression artifacts.

I agree it sounds like artifacts from a bad hum (from whatever cause).
But made very difficult to deal with because the desired voice signal is intermodulated by the hum.
I would make every effort to acquire the original file (in whatever format/codec) BEFORE ANY conversion.

It seems likely that it could be repaired by a high-end DAW application. But is the cost/benefit ratio positive?
Of course, proper testing and monitoring during shooting would likely have prevented the problem at origin.
