Help Finding a Rig

Using a T2i, I need to do a shot where the character holds a box in his hands and walks down the hall. The shot would ideally be with the camera on his chest looking down into the box to see its contents as he walks. the actor can't hold the camera cause both of his hands will need to be holding the box on each side...
does this make sense?
any thoughts on a rig for this? diy or purchased?

at this point i am thinking of putting a tripod against the actor's body and then velcro strips around his body to keep the tripod in place... or i guess monopod

have you considered the simplest and easiest solution? as the character walks, you or someone else simply walks behind him holding the camera at his chest. i.e. your hands would have to be wrapped around him from behind.

diy -

I would somehow mount the camera somewhat tight, around the characters neck (obviously not choking), or maybe hooked up to some kind of shoulder pads - maybe even duct taped to a set of football shoulder things (what do you call those?) tilted downwards - you may need an external lcd screen to monitor focus and to compose the shot. etc.

may not work, but just a thought.

We did this for a customer using some of our pieces. He sent the helmet, we bolted on the pieces. Might be more then you want to do but thought I would put it out there. With the counter weight on the back end it makes it a little easier to look up and down. With the smaller t2i and some small rods out front the forward projection could be pretty small.

So i made this body mount for a few shots and it only cost me 15 buck.

1. Made out of security camera housing bracket
2. Large Kidney belt (found ad hardware store)
3. square plank of wood.

Steps are easy
cut wood to size
Bolt bracket to wood.
Hold to chest or stomach well you wrap the belt around your body.

For your case I would just rotate the mount so that is would be side ways when mounting to body.

Hope this Helps

for this little scene that i am shooting i have come up with a fairly easy option... it won't work for long term benefits but it works for now...
basically i put the camera up against my adam's apple and then thru the strap over my head and crossed it til it was tight (almost choking me). then to keep that slack i put the strap back over my head and had the pressure of the strap on my forehead... that probably makes no sense but if someone stumbles upon this thread i thought it might help someone else out

Can you mount the cam on the box itself?

bing bing bing. I agree this is the money shot, and the beauty of using a small form factor cam. Just put the cam in a box. If you size it right, you can even have the openning of the box frame the image. Put a little light in the box so its not a cave and you can see the sides, and you have yourself a Cohen brother's shot.
