:violin:Will someone please assist me regarding 50mm lens and adaptor, as I'm ready to purchase but am clueless.

To make it simple, I'll tell you what I don't know.

1) I don't know the terms (ie FD Lens etc)

2) I don't know the best type of lens to use with the GH1. (ie FD Lens etc)

3) I don't know where to buy the lens (looking for the type with adjustable apeture ring)

4) Once I get the lens, I don't know what type of adaptor to buy.

5) I don't know a reputable place to buy or order the adaptor.

I"m here to rescue you.

1) FD is a term to describe as a type of lens used on canon camera's. kind of how there are different types of video cards in a computer. Take for example nivdia is the brand, but there are 9600, 9800 and GX100's vid cards. Canon FD is an older lens type that is discontinued, but well regarded because they have manual control over the aperture and are cheap as paper and good quality.

2) There is no best lens, because you can practically use any lens. Canon FD lens are cheap and good. So start with those. Or shop around. Look at anything that can be used manually.

3) Keh.com, local pawn shops, or ebay and even the dvx market place.
this sticky is pretty good, it can be applied to your gh1

4) You decide which adapter to buy, by deciding which set of lens is good for you and your work. Ebay or the dvx marketplace is the place to get your adapter. but if you do have lens, then it's pretty simple. the adapter would be "your lens type to micro 4/3rd mount/adapter"

5) I bought mine from ebay, a nikon mount and it's shipping now. I can't really say how the quality is, but when I do, I'll repost a link here. but again, it's nikon and i already own a kit of nikon lens.

The best value starter lens is the Canon FD 50mm F1.4. Comes in two types, the older silver ring one and the newer 80's plastic version. Both all the same, so just look for the key terms 'FD', '50mm' and 'F1.4' and you will get a great boost in low light performance and nice shallow DOF. Remember though it's 100mm equiv. on the GH1, so it's more like a telephoto lens than a standard portrait 50mm on a 35mm film camera.

I disagree with the above statement.

I just picked up the £48 - FD to micro four thirds adapter from Hong Kong (seller was hard-man) It took 3 wks to arrive but seems well made. I picked up a 50mm 1.4 FD for £40 on ebay at same time. Really makes a difference in low light and great narrow dof. I am no expert but the view is certainly more 'zoomed' than a 50mm on a 35mm SLR for sure. Takes me back too - all this manual focus and aperture :-) Also took me a while to realise that the adapter has an additional ring which has 2 positions - it either fully opens the aperture or closes it to the set value on ther aperture ring. Big improvement on video in low light too. Quite impressed
