Help: Exporting my final project to a qt file question

Question about exporting my final project. Here's the specs: 24p. 1920x1080. All video media is ProResLT.

Wondering that when i export the project to a quicktime file, if i should stick with one of the ProRes settings to match the same HD quality or should i use H264? Won't i lose quality if i use H264?

Any advice would be great.

Depends on how you intend to deliver the QT file.

Exporting to h.264 heavily compresses the file, but it is the acceptable means for delivery on the web.

If you are going to post or will encode to SD DVD, then use current settings.

Yes, we need to know what will happen next. But for me, as a rule, if a project has various potential destinations, I always export and archive a self-contained QT file at the editing settings. This both future-proofs the project as much as possible, AND gets rid if the rendering stage for other encodings (via compressor), which can be a big timesaver when delivering multiple formats.

If you edit at (at least) the settings for the raw footage, then you will preserve maximum quality by exporting a master video in editing settings. Any more-compressed or lower-resolution export… or even a transcode to a different color space (like 4:1:1 DV to 4:2:0 MPEG) will throw away some quality, which is something you ideally want to do only at the final encoding stage for each delivery format.
