Help!!! Ex3 auto-focus zoom not working!

I just received my EX3 few days days ago, and have been messing around with it, just testing it out. For some reason the whenever I zoom in on something (when it reaches half+ the zoom capabilities) it just stays blurry, and doesn't auto-focus correctly!

Yes, I have the auto-focus switched on, and have tried everything with the switches!

Am I doing something wrong, or is it a problem with my EX3?

Would really appreciate some help! Thank you!

Hmmmm...

1) Is the focus ring on the AF/MF place?

2) Are you trying to focus something that is closer than the minimal focus distance, which I believe it is 0.8 meters or so?

In MACRO mode you can focus close things, but from Z45 or so the minimal focus distance starts to increase.

Is this a focus or auto-focus issue?

Hey, thank you for the response!

I am just trying to focus on things that are like 20 feet, or 6 meters away!

I have it on auto focus, (when i also put it on macro, it makes 0 difference what so ever) is doesn't automatically focus as I zoom in, no matter what!

Is there another setting I need to activate? I'm not quite sure what the AF/MF ring placement means, but no matter where I have it, it doesn't automatically focus on things when I zoom into them!

There is 1 more switch under the lens. Manual and auto for focus. Try that one with the lens in autofocus mode.

AF/MF means that it will Auto Focus if you have the switch under the lens set to AUTO, and it won't if you have it under MANUAL. Why would you use this ring position to manual focus? Because is in this position where you can focus using MACRO mode, for very close objects.

It is also needed to use the SHOT TRANSITION feature with focus transition.

Thanks everyone for the explanations, and help- but my auto-focus still does not work!

Ok, on the EX3, when its autofocusing, are you suppose to see the focus ring move on its own, (like how the iris setting moves the f-stops for you on auto-iris, and you watch the ring move) Is that suppose to happen on the EX3? Because my focus ring is always in a stationary position no matter what....

Please...someone... lol

In the EX1 it doesn't move on it's own, I guess it should be the same on the 3.

This may sound facetious but it's really intended to be helpful:

Don't use autofocus. Go full manual.

Zoom in on the target, get your focus, zoom out. Start recording, then do your zoom-in.

The automatic zoom relies heavily upon target contrast. If it doesn't have a clearly defined target it won't be able to determine if it's in sharp focus. Also, autofocus systems almost always "hunt" and that can be more troublesome than its worth.
