HELP!!! DV out stopped working?!!

Just got a call back on replacing/repairing my firewire port from Panasonic service centre...

$1300 CAD ($1150 USD)

Should we riot? Thoughts?
 
Over the past year, I have seen about 20 threads on this subject!

Survey time: Is the PC port being used when the fry occurs a 6 pin or a 4 pin type? I believe the 6 pin variety also passes DC voltage to power an external device.

Even a 6 pin to 4 pin cable could have a voltage potential on the shield/casing
 
I always use a 4 to 6 pin cable (camera to computer).

Question 2: Has anyone gotten anywhere with repair or replacemet of the firewire port (at less $$ than I was quoted)?
