Help - do it yourself film transfer

A student showed me some footage he had shot on 16mm film the other day which he projected on a wall and shot with a miniDV camera for his viewing pleasure. It was by no means great quality but it did have a certain look which appeals to me and I got to thinking that it would look even better if it was shot on a 24p camera with the right settings. I would like to minimize the flicker that comes with this homegrown transfer approach and I was thinking maybe 1/48th shutter speed. Anyone ever done this before that could pass on their experiences or ideas?

Otherwise, I'll let you how it goes.

I recently did some conversion of this type with a DVX100A, but in standard 60i mode, and with a 16mm projector with the 5-blade shutter. I can't remember exactly how it was explained to me, but it has something to do with 24 times 5 equals 120, which is divisible by the 30 frames per second of standard video; the practical upshot is, no flicker. :)

I didn't try any tests with the camera in 24p mode, and I don't have one handy to try it, but I guess it would be worth a shot. :) I would guess that you'd probably want a camera shutter speed that was a multiple of 24, but there's probably other people here with better knowledge on the subject...
