Help converting a flash or wmv for FCP

I have some footage given to me and I have 2 copies of it. 1 is a flash file and the other is a wmv, I can't get either to open in FCP. I have downloaded a program called "Any Video Converter" and was able to convert but the quality was terrible. Any other suggestions for a free program (if possible)? I appreciate any help.

I can't think of any free apps that will do this off the top of my head. Maybe somebody out there can enlighten me.

In general, Final Cut (and anything apple) hates Windows Media Files and Flash video.

If you pay for an upgraded version of flip for mac, that would allow you to export form quicktime 7. Toast, Adobe Media Encoder, Episode, and Sorrenson squeeze are other encoders that would do the trick (although, obviously, not free).

I'm not sure if Mpeg stream clip would do the trick. You can always give that a shot. That's free.

You need MPEG Streamclip AND Perian to make this work. Don't expect great results moving from flash to a movie file.

And once you're done with Perian, uninstall it

Hi David, could you elaborate on the reason to uninstall Perian? Genuinely curious.

Also, as one FCP user to another, I just wanted to say I have enjoyed reading your posts and respect your opinion!

Thanks.

I've seen issues using Log and Transfer with p2 cards, and with AVCHD footage when Perian has been installed.

You can always just disable it if you do have issues, but I always advise to be aware of the potential for causing problems.

It is installs a number of 3rd party packages and I'm conservative about permitting that.
