Help! Close-ups of jewelry

I need to shoot six pairs of expensive diamond earrings. I tried with the stock DVX100a but I had trouble and would be embarrased to show small dots on television for my client. Is there a way to properly do this with the DVX? I need to get as close as possible to show the detail of the jewelry and at least fill the television screen somewhat. Thanks for any advice.

The higher the number the closer you'll get. You can stack them to (IE 2+3.5= 5.5)

And if you do any panning in 24p, check your footage because I found that shiney objects really inhance that jittery look. You have to pan very slowly to get away from it.

I ended up shooting in 60i because the pans had to be a little quicker than I could get away with 24. I could have gone with 30p but I guess I was a sissy.
