help ! cannot put clips together

Help! i am not sure what happened but i cannot put clips together on the timeline without the clips running into each other. i have used vegas for over a year now without a problem until now.

i have enclosed a pic of what i mean....

i cannot join clips together on the same track nor can i put one clip on a track above the other without having them run into each other like so.

each clip is fine if i seperate it from another. how do i fix this? thanks!!!
 
There's a little icon at the top where your tools are located. It looks like a mouse pointer with an asterisk attached to it. It's like the first icon on the left of the tools. That enables snapping.
 
It looks like one of the clips may be partially transparent. Check to make sure clip (or track) opacity is at 100%.

Each clip has an opacity envelope (look for a line in the clip below the top of the line), and each track has an opacity slider.
