Help! Anyone had to re-activate DV rack HD?

So I get to the mountains of NC with one day to shoot and pull out my trusty computer and hit the DV Rack HD button to make sure everything is going to work and that I have all the appropriate wires etc. and much to my joy and pleasure a screen appears saying I need to activate my software. What? It's only been activated and working fine for a year. I get on the internet to adobe since I certainly had no serial nos. etc with me, but can't make sense of any info there so I put in a call. On hold 15 minutes finally someone answers, wrong dept. I am put on hold another 15-20 minutes, wrong dept again but I'm given a work no. and an 800 no. to call. I call the no. and I hold again for 10-15- minutes and am dropped. I call again and after somewhere in the neighborhood of 50+ minutes I am talking to a guy who is supposed to be on the DV rack team. He gives me my serial numbers, but we can't make any of it work. I am now given some software companies name that is supposed to be a slam dunk because they handle the activations for the company that origanally wrote this thing. They don't answer the phone, so after another 10 minutes or so I give up because I see that there's a 10 day free trial. I have lost an hour of my best daylight by now but head happily to the parkway. Get there now 2 more hours from my internet connection and realize that the free trial version has no record function. This is rapidly getting to be a BAD DAY in paradise. I finally got an email reply from the software activation company saying that they don't do this and to try arcsoft.com. I am at my wits end. Nothing at arcsoft about DV rack. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Does anyone know what is going on?

Thanks,
Bird

If memory serves, DV Rack is now called "OnLocation" and is only available as part of a larger software suite. Not 100% on the details though.

Honestly, the only constructive advice I can offer is for you to not use software that uses Product Activation. Headaches like what you've experienced aren't exactly unusual... See this post regarding issues with DV Rack specifically and activation. I haven't read the whole thing, but perhaps something posted there might help.

Prior to the Adobe rebranding of DV Rack as OnLocation, I had to reactivate several times. It is a major nuisance but the London-based company was very helpful.

Complex activation schemes such as this only penalize the honest. The dishonest will always find a workaround.

oh boy, I feel your pain. I remember what it was like activating DV Rack. Now I have On Location too, as it came bundled with CS3.

You need to call Softwrap in London. I think the first time I called, someone there told me they couldn't help me... upon redialing, I got someone who knew what they were doing. The 800 number is actually listed somewhere in the monster thread on this board about activation horrors... keep in mind the time change.

Good luck!

Thanks all, I filnally got it done, though my recorder section is still greyed out. I can however scroll down far enough and find the transport and am able to record, but what a pain with all this. It is a great product if it would just work like it's supposed to without all the hoops!!

And where do we get a product like this that doesn't use this crappy activation stuff? I'd be all for it!!
