I have an interview with 2 people. I need to know what to go buy. I have a rode video mic is that enough to place in between the 2 of them on a light stand for sound.

I'm going to buy the H4n.

I need another mic for the audience questions. Can you suggest one.

Ok. I'm confused.

Can I feed 2 mics into the h4n? or do I feed one into my camera and one into the h4n.

Or Do I just buy 2 lavaliere mics and plug them into the h4n. I have an audio techia wireless mic.

The interview is indoors and the people will be sitting pretty close to each other like 12 inches a part.

Thanks

Never use a Videomic for final audio. It's good for getting an on camera scratch track, but it will sound really thin if you are using it as a boom.

Since you didn't specify what camera you'll be using, I'm going to assume it doesn't have XLR inputs, so here's my suggestion:

For the audience, get any old stage xlr mic + stand and plug directly into channel 1 of the zoom. Have audience members approach the mic for questions and have the B-camera isolated on the Mic stand. Check the levels before you roll and make sure they aren't peaking.

For the 2 person interview rent/buy a Sennheiser EW 122P G3-A wireless mic and receiver to use in conjunction wth your audio technica mic. If your camera has dual XLR inputs, feed both receivers into the A-camera and monitor through camera. If you're on DSLR, then you are going to have to feed one receiver to A Camera (via stereo mini plug) and the other to the Zoom (via XLR). The second option is playing with fire because you won't be able to monitor the wireless feeds for dropouts or wireless hits, but that's the worst case scenario.

Thank you so much for you quick reply.

I'm using an hv40. two of them. The space is really small so people won't be able to approach the mic. Is there an wireless mic I can get for the audience.

I'm on a super budget so I guess I'll get another audio technica lav. Thanks

You might consider renting what you need.

The VideoMic is not going to be enough at all, especially not if it's just parked on a stand. You really need to get two lavs, either hard-wired or wireless, for each of the folks on stage. For the audience, it would be helpful to have some one with a mic on a boom to move the mic where it needs to be. You'd then need a mixer to take the three mics into the two record tracks of the H4n.

Short of that, you could rent 2 Sennheiser G3 kits with lavs, and plug one into each camera. Then, use the Zoom to catch crowd noise.

Wireless kits can be rented for very little. Try trewaudio.com. They'll ship to you.

The other option depends on the venue... but if the talent will be mic'd up for a PA system in the room, consider taking the board feed for their mics, and then take another mic straight into the Zoom for crowd response.
