Hello/Thanks/Short Films

Hello all. This is my first time post but a big "THANK YOU" to everyone because I check out this forum about three times a week and get great tips from you all.

Posted below is a link to our "ANGUISH" films shot with the DVX100A. This is a 4 part series with one and two completed at this time. Three and four will be shot this year.

WARNING: It's a HORROR/Suspense/Short Film" so there are some things in them that you may not like.

That's the "Anguish" that shows up in all four films with the fourth film answering all the questions about him.

Number two is shot better I think.

Thanks for looking.

It's working now. Streaming away...

Okay, just finished the first one. Holy crap, that's kind of depressing. Overall I thought you did a fantastic job, I just have a few critiques.

First, I have to applaud you on the sound design, I loved the music ques(spelling?). I thought they were very well done.

Your shots were composed nicely, but I couldn't help thinking that the lighting could have been a little bit better. It reminded me of an early-90's TV show overall. Very much like Tales From the Crypt. If that's what you were going for, kudos, you got it.

The very best thing about the whole piece was that I was able to watch the whole thing and get invested into the characters enough till I was disturbed at the rape part and felt bummed out at what happened overall. Which, I assume, was the point. So good job.

Tyler, thank you for your comments and here are your answers to your questions.

My sound design and music I am VERY proud of. Moriz Oepen is my designer and Chris Wood does my music. I believe they are some of the most talent guys out there and we’re lucky to have them aboard. There both have sign on to do the feature film we are working on toward the end of this year.

Lighting for the first film isn’t my favorite. One thing I talk to the crew about is always getting better at what we do for the budgets we have. If we can’t move forward then I’m not willing to keep creating these films. I believe that part two looks better. And as for that 90’s TV show look, no that’s not what we were going for but now I know that if that’s what we need, we can do it! LOL!

Invested in the characters to me is one of the hardest things to do in the short time we have to show them before there “end”. Thank you for saying this because again, this is very important to me. As for the rape and so on, part one was meant to get you on a level of uncomforted. As part two is to make you feel for the man and feel his pain.

Part three and four are in the works (pre-production) now. Part three a number of the crew feel will be the best one but as for me, I think part four is going to be interesting as how we are going to tell and show the story.

Again Tyler thanks you for checking our project out.

(If you like comedy’s check out our Myspace out of the cage production page (you can find this link on the anguish page) and check out the film “BOOGER”.

SIDE NOTE: I think people are smart to shoot a number (not to many) of shorts first before shooting a feature film. Learn and then do.

Oh and Chris is doing the music to a commercial (:30 spot) we are working on at this time as well (I’ll posted it when it's finished. We're shooting that with the DVX as well). He’s thing isn’t horror films but he tells me he’s learning a lot while working on them.

In the process of watching the first one. Looking great so far, but one thing that strikes me is that it's too bright and doesn't have enough contrast. This is a case in which I think just adjusting the levels and doing simple colour correction to accentuate the difference between light and dark would help a lot.

Yes there are shots like that. We did colour correction the film but sometimes it just doesn't turn out the way you want. I think in A2 we did a better job. There is one shot in A2 (the guy looking down into the darkness and then other guy scares him) that we just couldn't get to look right.

Thanks for the look HBlack

Yeah, that shot bothered me.

Just finished watching the second one. This is actually really cool. I'm legitimately looking forward to the next one.

Thank you!

We are looking at shooting in about two months, A3 that is. A4 if everything goes to plan will be shot about one month after that.

What I'd like to do is get these two films out of the way and move on to our feature film. We've learned allot and I believe that will show in our first feature film.

We have spent about a year just looking for the right story to tell. We think we've found it and we are all ready to make that next step into film making.

Hey, Ive been lurking around here for a couple weeks, but had to register when I saw the anguish. I love what you're doing, can't wait to see the next 2 installments.

Can't wait for part three and four. I liked how the second one was shot better than I liked the first one. I was way to emotionally attached when the couple was killed, at least more attached then I thought I would get watching shorts on the web. I digg your style. I look forward to the later parts.

thanks for checking us out. We are so ready to start shooting A3. Keep your eyes on the site…

I believe part three will look even nicer then our first two. As for part four, will that’s going to be different in a whole other way. Thanks for the complements.

Thanks to everyone who has been checking out www.theanguish.com

FYI for those of you who have been keeping up with us. This letter went out a couple of days ago to the crew and cast of The Anguish films.

Hello everyone, I hope all is well with you.

I'm writing this letter to you to let you know that I have made a decision
to not make anymore of the Anguish films. As you know the plan was to
produce four Anguish films before starting work on a feature film. I feel
like I'm ready to move forward on a feature. My work at Turner Broadcasting
plus the Booger short, A1 and A2 has gotten me to this place of readiness.

I would like to think you from the bottom of my heart for all the work you
have put into these films. From pre-production, production and post you have
all made this journey a great one. Again, thank you. All your time and work
was and is greatly appreciated.

As for "Out Of The Cage Productions" there is a small possibility that there
will be one more short shot before work is done on the feature. If this is
the case please note that I will be calling for your help as I did on Booger
and the Anguish films.

There are a number of you that I will be talking to about the feature and
the hope of you working on the film with "Out Of The Cage Productions".

You all ROCK!!!
