Hello! New DVX100B user

Hello everybody!

I wanted to start by saying THANK YOU for creating this site. This is an excellent resource for a novice like myself. I've spent the last month lurking the site and decided to go ahead and purchase the DVX100B from EVS. It arrived last week and is still in the box. I'm waiting for a polarize filter and tripod to arrive before I try anything.

Couple concerns and questions...

The UPC code on the boxes are both damaged. As in, the bottom 1/3 has been removed from both outter and inner packaging. I'd like to claim this rebate, but I do not want to mail anything until I know the damaged UPC sticker won't sink the deal. Getting some money back is nice but I really want that DVD and book too...cuz I haven't a clue. :) Any suggestions?

Also, EVS suggested I get the MACH4 extended warranty. I've got 20 days to get it or the offer expires. Is this warranty a "must have"?

It appears the spending has just begun. So my next purchases will be lights and mics?? I need a PC upgrade too. Any good deals out there?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Jeff

Hey Jeff

Is the UPC removed, or just partially removed from damage? It comes in two boxes... does it look like the inside UPC was tampered with by a human?

Also, is there a rebate form in the manual bag? Does the box read DVX100BPS?

Hold the boat...

After further inspection (which I'm just getting around to), it looks like the remaining part of the UPC is stuck inside the OUTTER box.

And yes, the box reads DVX100BP and I have a rebate form in the manual bag.

Hey Jeff, congrats on the new baby!

I can't offer any tips on extended warranties. I am a new owner and don't know the "possible problems" that may lie ahead.

I know that I take GREAT CARE of all my equipment and hate spending money of extended service plans. I will admit, that it is a nice peace of mind if you can afford it, but I opted not to spend it.

As for additional equipment... congratulations on the new money-draining faucet! I find myself making new purchases every month!

Definitely check out the dvxuser market place. A lot of good people with good deals. (Always beware of the frauds! Check their profile and read their previous posts.)

pmg is always listing lighting and seems to be a great guy. But I believe I read that he is dropping his sales, though he just recently listed some lights.

I finally purchased the Sennheiser ew100eng G2. (wireless lav and handheld attachment.) I read TOO MANY posts on what to buy and not to buy, but I went with this set-up. It is very nice! Great sound (much better then just using the onboard mics). I picked up mine for just over $500 at roaddogonline.com (If you don't need the handheld attachment, you can find this for $100 less.)

As I shoot my first film for the horrorfest, I find that I still need a shotgun mic.

I have found that you can get by with halogen lights until you get what you really want. They are cheap and available at your local home improvement store.

Good luck and have fun shooting!

Hi Ted.

Yep yep...I can see the expenses adding up. And I thought music and audio gear was a cash drain. hehe...oh well, its only money..and I think this video stuff will be fun :)
