GH2 Hello, and problems...

Hi there,

I've been lurking a while since buying my GH2 last week, and I am pretty impressed at the cameras capabilities. Having owned previously a Canon HV20, and a Sony HVR-Z7, the initial results with the stock lens, and an old E-Series 50mm have been a revelation. HOwever! I am noticing that despite having a 32GB (class 10 Transend) my available filming time shows as 29min 59sec. (the card is def. a 32GB) any ideas out there? -

Also, while I'm here.. swithering over the 20mm pancake, any thoughts?

Cheers

Ben

hi
uk land has time limit on the amount u can record at any one time.
for the price the pancake is one hell of a lens.

If you are in Europe then you are stuck with a 30 minute record time. Do a search.....there are various theory's as to why. Since it doesn't affect me I never finished reading all the comments as to the exact reason why. Last I read had something to do with having to pay more tax as anything that recorded over 30 minutes would be considered a video cam and not a still cam....or something to that effect.

Yup- unfortunately there's no way around this. It's a legal issue not a technical one. Does the hacked UK version of the GH1 get around this? If so you might have some hope down the line.

When I read the first reply I thought the poster was joking, until I did a quick search on the subject. Unbelievable.. :undecided

P.S Noah, I downloaded and watched your GH2 guide today, nice work. How about a more general book on medium level film making? (Guerilla stylee) :cheesy:

Oh, and a question on the 30min thing. I take it I just have to re-press record after 29:59? or is the card limited to 30min?

just start recording another clip- didn´t you notice that the limit keeps getting reset at maximum with each clip ?

Pretty sure this is a EU-wide problem, not confined to the UK. Not to turn this into a political thread, but I'm surprised that angry DSLR shooters haven't stormed Brussels. I don't live in Europe anymore, but this sounds like something to at least write your MEP about.

Who the heck shoots more than 30 min?! Not even a wedding ceremony is that long if you got a static camera running. Ok maybe a conference or stuff like that, but just throw in a closeup during those 3 sek it takes to start&stop. Or actually, if you do that stuff, buy a proper semi-pro video camera with XLR etc. Not a fiddly GH2.

.........aslo i heard there was this guy called Vitality hacking GH2 just about now. (Or, get an NTSC camera on ebay; cheaper too).

Thanks- it's a good idea- I'll add it to the wish list. Got a couple new ones in the hopper. :)

'Who the heck shoots more than 30 min'

Try shooting a corporate presentation that last 2 hours... it's a major pain with the 7D or un-hacked GH1 / GH2 ... yeah you can stop and restart but if you've got 3 cameras running it's a pain to sync...

Loving the GH13 it these situations...

Cheers

I have to say I never normally shoot more than a few min. at a time, so it's no real issue for me personally. But this is all kinds of crazy! -
