Just a run of the mill "hi, i'm new here, I promise I'm not a spambot, nice to be here" post

I've been lurking around various forums for a while, but recently took the plunge in becoming active in filming and production -- well, learning, anyways

My primary passion is pyrotechnics, but as I have an interest in special effects work (a very crowded industry), I decided that learning more about film & tv production could make me more useful/less frustrating if working on a set. Along the way, I also realized I have an interest in non-fiction documentary work, though it would likely be one-man band hobby projects, the jury is out on whether that has a future.

I don't expect to be particularly active in conversations in the short term, but figured it was better to create an account and introduce myself in advance.

Always appreciate sharing of knowledge, and opinions, and this forum has always been on my shortlist of places that are plentiful in both.

Welcome to DVXUser!

I wouldn’t count documentary out just yet. Reality is on a downhill slide (not necessarily a bad thing) even though it is still quite prevalent. Documentary - good documentary that tells moving, human stories - is going to be the one thing that’s hardest to replace in the long run.

I watch many YouTube shorts, every day and night.

Depending on the algorithms any given session, I might land on several documentary-like pieces in the scroll. They're perfect for me; short hits of info for the brain.

But the way they are sometimes edited is so wacky that you don't know what's real.

I think people will always be interested about history - it's very natural to be curious about past humans and life - but I think it's going to continue to become difficult recognizing non-fiction and this will change people.

I know it's going to be clarified well what's been produced by AI and what hasn't, but I think the bigger thought I'm having is I think people will continue to evolve greatly with how they receive their data.

We've already experienced how socials have changed society, and I don't know if the interest or attention spans will be there in the future for those traditionally longer human passion projects we've had in our lives.

On the AI related note, just caught up on some of those Veo 3 videos; oh, god, everyone is absolutely cooked.

Need Abe to see this (been MIA) so he can tell me I was right from 5 years ago during all that arguing (what did I know, I just assumed it would get better because I'm a gamer).

Seriously, these new advancements feel like a quarter-century of work, not a couple of years.

Welcome.

I watched a few samples (which I think were from Veo). They were actually quite good. One even had a reporter hand-holding a lavalier microphone, just like in real life! :D

I don't know where that came from, but I actually only started seeing it in the last few years; all the kids on YouTube hold the Rode square one up to their mouth.

It has a clip for presumably a shirt or similar clothing, but then if they don't hold it they clip it onto their hat or necklace. 🤷‍♂️
