Hello Every Body,
i am new posting here but have read many threads, seems like a great community.

Well now I finally feel like I have something to post about (yay) Just wanted to let any body who is interested to know I am just entering Pre-Production on my first film after finally finding the money to make it.

It's a Sci-fi film called "Tarbris"
so far i Have the script and have done a few pre-visuals of the action scenes using i-clone and have just commissioned an artist to do six concept art images.

While i was finding the money to make the film (not rich Unfortunately) i did make friends with a few people in the VFX industry and prop making industry who all have agreed to help me, which gives me even more enthusiasm.

well if you read this thanks and I look forward to speaking to as many of you as I can.

Hey there Guys.

The story centres on the first group of humans who venture to the first ever planet to be terraformed called Tarbris, a new world created for the benefit of science and exploration.
The group of people on the planet must survey and plan for construction ready for population all and seems perfect until life is discovered, both animal and humanoid and then questions must be asked as to where these life forms came from and is there a greater threat on the planet than anyone could have ever imagined.

I know it’s very basic but I really don’t want to give too much away about the story but I promise it’s both interesting and exciting.
I really wanted to step away from the usual clichéd stories found about how our world is dying and the stories about how humans are the bad guys or the one man stands against his race and sides with another, I feel it’s done to death and it’s not something I wanted to tell and granted there is a alien aspect to the story but one that I feel at least as not been touched on (to my knowledge)

So I hope that gives you some insight in to my script it’s got plenty of story, character and action, it’s a sci-fi story that I think a Sci-fi fan will enjoy.

Oh and my better half is from the Philippines and with a bit of luck will be able to shoot most of my film there with support from her family, but I will keep you all posted with any updates and when I have something to show I intend on getting a website up.

thanks for reading

This sounds very ambitious for a first film, I wish you the best of luck and I'll be following your process.

Just remember, don't try to be anti-cliche, just know your story and world and write it. By doing so it'll be original on it's own.

Making humans the bad guys isn't all to common. If anything making aliens the bad guy is far more common. I mean Avatar isn't original, lots of stories like that, but when it comes down to it, everything has been done before. Just make it your own.

Looking forward to it.

Thanks for your comments guys.

Jon Star: thanks for advice and you are right, I basically just wrote the story to what I would like to see in a film while trying to avoid certain clieched story pointers, don't get me wrong there are stuff in the script that falls right in the clieched rule book (if there is one) because the story is very pro-human, I suppose I am trying to say is the story is very grounded in what as come before but with enough to make it stand on it's own, just like what you said.

It is very ambitious for my first film and some times I feel i should be slapped and told what are you doing?
But I feel with help from like minded people I can pull it off and i am expecting problems to arise as they will but being head strong I will tackle them as they come, but also before I even said to myself "yeah I can do this" I did look into things on a realistic level like VFX, I know it won't be ILM quality but it will pass, although I will push for better but not to be impossible in what I want, I suppose a lot comes down to the planning & design of the whole thing what I might have to substitute in one thing I will make up for in another.

i.e, to have a great backdrop for the film I would shoot in the Philippines instead of my local forest at the cost of loosing 10 of the 30 crew
or
having great Wardrobe and props made from the designs instead of just having jump suits with bike armour on, at the cost of only having 40 of each instead of my preferred 100.
And one last one
designing the sets to have a more tidy feel instead of having a walk way with pipes, cables and hundreds of little lights running all along the walls, it won't feel like your average sci-fi construction but the benefit of that is less cost for dressing materials and more money for extra shooting time at set, still with a good looking set.

I am pretty sure you all know about doing this as you are more experienced than me but I just wanted to show my method of thinking and how I am going about things.

But they are all trivial compared to a good crew and cast, The Cast at least I have some of who are trained but still unknown, but will focus all my attention in the new year putting together a great team.

sorry for the long post I just get a bit giddy some times.
thanks
