Helicopter shots, underwater shots, rapids & Big Fish!

Looked at both. Really nice. I know you do a lot of outdoor action, probably mostly closeup. Do you find that the 12x zoom limits some of your creativity. If so, have you had any luck with a good extender...

Thanks,

my god this is beautiful, I still find it amazing what a skilled and artistic shooter can do whis a tool like the hvx. great job. I'm really looking forward to seeing the finished film.

Thank you all for the kind words. The HVX is an amazing little camera. The first part of the show is finished and we are currently shopping for a home for a series.
Mark, I did at times find the zoom a bit limiting. I had a 1.6x lens but you definitely need a tripod for that. Being that about 97% of the show was handheld it was only used on a couple of shots. Most days it was just me, the fisherman/host and the guide in the blue and white raft you see in one shot. I carried the camera and a Kata 207 backpack with 8x8gb cards, polarizing filter, 3 batteries, EWA Marine housing and lunch. Host and guide wore Lectrosonic MM400B lav transmitter packs and I had the recievers in the top pocket of my waders with a cable I made to go down my sleeve to the inputs of the camera and a return for the headphone jack.
Even on the beautiful sunny days the temp never rose above 40 degrees and it would usually start out at 19-20 in the morning. The water temp was below freezing, so to get the underwater shots I would roll up my sleeves and dunk the camera for about 20 seconds at a time (any longer and my hands would turn blue) and point in what I hoped was the right direction, I got pretty good at judging the framing without being able to see.
The Helicopter was a little 2 seater (R22 I think) with the passenger door taken off and a stretcher basket built on the side above the skid. I was strapped in with a full harness and then turned out to the side and could put my feet in the basket. I tied a strap around my wrist and attached it to the camera handle incase I dropped it. The ride was for 2 1/2 hours so I got a lot of amazing footage along the coast and then all up the river. At times we were flying below the tops of the mountains while in the canyons. There were cliffs on either side of us very close. The pilot was very skilled which allowed for some great footage.

Anything in particular to report on the use of the ewa marine housing? I'm contemplating what to use for some shallow water shooting and possible use for inclimate weather conditions...
