OTHER: Helicopter ride above NYC

I highly underestimated just how difficult it would be to shoot out of an open-door helicopter. The vibration of the helicopter itself was difficult enough to deal with, and then there was the wind.

Prior going up I had considered renting a gimbal of some sort but I feel like the force of the wind wouldn't have really allowed it to work all that well.

I shot this with a A7S + Canon 17-55mm + Metabones, GoPro Hero 5 Black, and a Canon 7D + Tokina 11-16mm. Not a great set of gear, but it got the job done. When I do this again, I think i'll rent some better equipment.

Have any of you shot out of an open-door helicopter before? I'd love some advice, tips and tricks. Would also just love some feedback on this quick little video I put together with all the video that was salvageable. And yes, I had to use a warp stabilizer and pretty much the entire thing.

You captured some cool shots...the only thing I would recommend is getting more static shots next time and having less camera movement (or at least a bit slower). Some of the clips are quick pans/whips (not all) and they look a bit too fast for 24p.

I've been on various helicopter tours but never filmed out of one...I'm sure it's tough!
