Heath Ledger Dead

Certainly nothing new here.
They've been pulling the same stunt at funerals of Iraq war casualties.
Edit: you beat me to it Uga---good article.

I refuse to give them [phelps family] any attention, and I encourage everyone else to do the same. That's exactly what they're after.

To be honest... I'd even like those links deleted. No offense at all Zfarms, but just for the sake of not spreading the word on that wretched family...

NY Police Commissioner live on CNN right now.
Only prescription drugs found on scene. NOT strewn about as stated in some reports but ALL in the bottles. Would not go into specifics as to what medications were there. Some sleeping pills and "other" drugs. I think, to his credit, he did not want to name the medications so as not to invite public speculation about what was going on, instead saying he wouldn't get into that until the toxicology report came back.

NO package of illicit drugs found as reported by NY television station.

NOT found at foot of bed as previously reported, but face down in bed.

There was a rolled up 20 dollar bill that has not been tested for drug residue.

That alone sounds like a total accident to me. Who lies face down ... someone waiting for a massage.

Fueled by a thirst for ratings and driven to be the first to report, the so-called "NEWS MEDIA" are predominantly nothing more than paparazzi who just happen to have a daily time slot on television.

it disgusts me.

I'm just sad to see him go and I think his "Joker" role may definately be one of his best. I didn't think anyone could follow Jack, least of all him (even though he was a good actor), but he surprised and impressed me and brought the kind of Joker to the forefront that we all want to see and be a little afraid of. Batman is a dark character and so are his villains. Can't wait to see the movie.

No matter what happened (good, bad, drugs or not) it's still sad. RIP Heath.

that rolled up twenty sounds like a pretty good indicator that something was going up his nose.

I tend to agree but what exactly is "rolled up". Like a straw or kind of bendy on both ends. Where was it? On a mirror or in his pocket or wadded up with a bunch of other bills. We don't know.

Granted, as described, it sounds suspicious, but we won't know anything until the toxicology reports are back (up to ten days according to the NYC Commish) and tests on the bill ( a day or two)

Geez, to think the media may have this for 10 days to speculate before there is anymore real information.

Jason locked the thread due to blatant and immediate disregard for his request for things not to get personal.

We talked about it and decided to reopen it given the import of the thread and that the death of talented actor who seems by all accounts to have been a very down to earth guy is something germane to the cafe and something that a lot of members have an interest in and questions about and may need to talk about on some level.

So the whole last page has gone bye bye and it's reopen.

But people deal with these things in their own way ... so try not to be too hard on each other if someone posts something you don't agree with, and don't let things get personal again. Or lock down will definitely ensue.

It's one thing to disagree with someone ... it's another to throw epithets around or to get into a flame war.

It's a remembrance thread for cryin' out loud. Let's stay classy people.

R.I.P. Heath

hear about that hate group that's picketing ledger's funeral?

Sick f***ing bastards. leave the family alone. let them bury their son/father/brother in peace, you f***ing asses.

I will say this.

Heaths funeral is going to be in his home city of Perth. If these people were to follow him to Australia and picket his funeral, they may find themselves all alone in a place of people who are are simply not going to put up with it.

I simply wouldnt consider it a safe thing to do.

For the record I deplore violence.

A memorial service is expected to take place in Hollywood later this week ahead of his burial.

Though I just saw this. Not his funeral but important just the same.

A good Aussie boy.

I saw him at the Sydney Opera House once (how Australian is that). It was in the lobby during intermission for the Leonard Cohen tribute concert. He was just standing by himself, holding a glass of red wine, staring out into space. It sounds cheesy but he looked very at peace, all alone. I pride myself on not hassling random celebrities, but even the most shameless 'Oh my god, I love you!' cretin wouldn't have dared bother him at that moment. It was like walking through the bush and (to continue the theme) catching a glimpse of a beautiful kangaroo, gracefully going about it's business in the twilight. You don't want to disturb it, you just want to observe it. He really had that energy about him.

Actually, upon reflection, he was probably staring out at the giant TV screen in front of the opera house, broadcasting the 2005 Australian Open final. Lleyton Hewitt getting his arse kicked by Marat Safin.

That's a good memory.

And, I think you are the first Aussie I have ever seen say something nice about a kangaroo...

This is interesting...

Jack Nicholson has hinted he warned tragic Heath Ledger against taking on the role of The Joker in the new Batman film. Ledger, 28 - who was declared dead at 3:30pm at his Manhattan apartment on Tuesday - publicly declared himself exhausted and sleep deprived in November following the grueling shoot for The Dark Knight. He also revealed in an interview with the New York Times he'd resorted to taking sleeping pills - an overdose of which is believed to be the cause of his death - in a desperate bid to catch up on rest. And Nicholson, who famously portrayed the menacing Joker in Tim Burton's 1989 movie Batman, implied to the waiting crowd outside plush London restaurant The Wolesley on Tuesday night he spoke to Ledger about his role in The Dark Knight - and warned him about the pitfalls of taking on such a demanding challenge. When asked by the London crowds for his reaction to Ledger's untimely demise, a defeated Nicholson simply replied, "I told him so." Batman Begins prequel The Dark Knight is due to be released in July.

I'm sorry but...I think the media is going to take that quote and twist it anyway they want to. If they can keep this story going just a wee bit longer they will do it.

Jack's quote leaves too much to the imagination and interpretation. Right off the bat its hard to believe what he meant was that a 'demanding role' just might kill you. What actor doesn't want a demanding role? Shoot...now even I am speculating...sheesh.

I disgust me.

From CNN.com
Masseuse Diana Wolozin arrived at the apartment about 2:45 p.m. to give Ledger a massage, according to the police source. About 15 minutes later, when he had not come out of the bedroom and the door remained closed, she went in, saw him lying in bed, and set up a massage table nearby. She shook Ledger, but he did not respond, so she used his cell phone to call Olsen in California, knowing Olsen was a friend of Ledger's, the source said. Wolozin told Olsen that Ledger was unconscious, according to the NYPD source.

Olsen told her she would call private security people in New York. After getting off the phone, Wolozin tried to wake Ledger again, then called Olsen back to tell her she believed the situation was an emergency and was calling 911.
In the 911 call, at 3:26 p.m., Wolozin told authorities Ledger was not breathing. While on the phone with dispatchers, Wolozin tried to perform CPR on Ledger, but he was unresponsive.
What I find quite odd... the 2 phone calls to Mary Kate Olsen BEFORE calling 911.
That and Mary Kate calling her security team to handle the situation.

I don't care who you are, you find someone like that, you call 911!

They had the masseuse perform CPR until the paramedics got there. Who's to say what might have happened had they started CPR right away instead of calling someone else not once but twice! When you look at the timeline... she took almost half an hour before calling 911. She arrived at 2:45PM, entered the room he was in at 3:00PM and found him unresponsive, called 911 at 3:26PM after the other calls.

Stupid.

I can't remember the last time I was still so saddened about the death of a complete stranger two full days after it happened.

If anyone saw "I'm Not There," the "Dylan" that he played in that film seems strangely reminiscent of the troubled man that various reports have described Ledger to have been lately.
