Headphone Reccomendation

In Europe the sonys seem to be double the US price!
They cost as much as the Sennheiser 25...

Yes, in dollars the Sony 5706 is 2x the costs in Europe ($ 200), generally Sennheiser cost less over here.

But my Question and grumble: where do YOU leave the golden screw-on 1/4" plug that belongs to the Sony? If you work with the mini-jack you need to leave it somewhere....

well, the Sennheiser are about the same here as in the US 200$/150€ incl VAT, the Sonys are as you said half the price (some people even say they bought them for less than 70$ in the US...)
Actually a I compared prices a lot lately and I think I will place my first B&H order soon
(anyone knowing cheaper but still reliable A/V shops doing international shipping please tell...), even with customs it really pays off...

for the golden screw-on jack, I leave mine in my audio interface...

That is why I said 'generally'. Generally Sennheiser cost less in EU versus the USA. See the microphones like the MKH416 and almost all others, the same is for AKG and all other great EU audioproducts (...) The Sennheiser HD25 (not the SP version) I see in Germany for 138,- Euro incl VAT.

I just have a freezer bag of small parts that I know I need to keep but dont or rarely use - my little gold plug lives in there.

Those are for sitting in your lazyboy, putting on some Floyd or some post-bop Miles and smok--

Well, you get the point.

Yeah, but would they sound good? Let's not take the angle of on location sound work. If I would spend that amount, would they sound that good? Enough to warrant the price?

Or, if there is a better set of non-location sound headphones, just for listening, what would they be?

Grado is world famous for their phones, unfortunately never had the chance to hear them...
Ultrasone Proline would be the max I´d spend on phones I guess.
But when it comes to speakers, nothing beats a B&W surround system made of 800s/801s!

And I mean 800and/or 801 midrange DRIVERS...

The crossover from bass to mid is at 350 Hz and 6" mid can not handle highest SPLs. Genelecs have higher crossover points and the biggest models have 2x5"mids. Also the semi-horn thing in front of the mid/high assembly rises the efficiency considerably besides giving better controlled directivity.

B&W 801 used to have the b/m crossover at 200 Hz if my memory serves and I suspect the problem was with those, maybe they have fixed the problem in new models. They ARE awesome and look nice, no question about that. Among the best surely.

But still the Genelec 1036A rules: http://www.genelecusa.com/products/main-monitors/1036a/

(just trying to push products built on my back yard, so to speak...)

Anybody have an opinion on Sennheiser HD 515 Headphones for either field recording or for editing? it's $100 at apple store and I have a gift card there... so I'm trying to figure out if it's worth it. But yeah if anyone knows about those, can compare or recommend headphones in a similar price range, or has any suggestions I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Andy D.
