Headphone jack died out. Sound peculiar?

I was using my DVX100a last weekend, when all of a sudden... I stopped hearing audio from the phones jack. I tested the jack with several headphones and tried troubleshooting the problem by turning the camera off/on and resetting the system, etc.

The camera was never bumped or dropped or used in an unusual way. I will have to send it off for repairs.

Anyone ever encounter this problem? Does anyone know what could have caused this?

I know it sounds like a dumb question, but did you check the audio volume? People have had this happen before and it turned out that the volume got turned down some how.

I was kinda thinking the same thing but he did say..."kend, when all of a sudden... I sto" which makes me think he was listening to it and it just went out...
Is that the case Krathis?

Think gonna send it for servicing. Happened to mine... Panny change a board for the fault. Is FOC under warranty and take less than 3 days in Singapore.

Strangely, my soundman commented that there's no monitoring lag after the servicing. No complains (out of sync or whatsoever) from the editor too!

I had a situation where the plug was stuck in the headphone jack. Had the break the plug and use a needle nose plier to pull some of it out. Still couldn't get everything out, and had to send it in for service. Waited ~1 month because part was not in stock.

I think I may have plugged the output of a mixer into the headphone jack by mistake, and it caused a short.

I had the volume at a normal listening level. After the jack died out, I tried bumping the volume at Max and still couldn't hear anything. From the other replies it seems that problems with the audio jack are not too uncommon. Thanks everyone for your input.

i had a serious echo chamber everytime i listened on headphones - thought it was operator error - kept trying to change settings - ask people - turns out something wrong with entire circut board - had to be replaced - camera was "B Stock" and out of warantee by time i figured out it was not me - luckily panasonic covered the part - an $1800 part - but i got stuck with $400 dollars in labor -

mmm.. just happened to me too in the last ten minutes ..Phone output just died on me.. Camera is almost new.. lucky me gots a Warranty.. There is a weak audio signal coming out though.. but inaudible..!! (Volume is up and on) Any suggestions before I send it off to the Lab?

yeh..all settings good.. In fact It was playing audio absolutely fine from a tape, and I was using phones output to monitor the sound as I was digitizing the footage into computer.. It just packed up midst playing! No settings were altered.. very strange .. off to the Lab!

Sorry ! the multi layer printed curcuit is broken , it can be bridged but better replaced
the board . 2~4 hours of labour + part . $$$$$$.

Problem solved!! Found a Strange quirk of DVX ... anyone else found this?

Phones output is "working" as long as I use a tape that I recorded on my DVX... I was actually importing/digitizing tapes that were recorded on a Sony PD150, and these seem to be the source of the problem.. Input to my computer via firewire has perfect sound.. but Phones output from camera is disabled ( only with the use of PD150 recorded tapes)>> Very strange.

thanks for your help anyways!

Headphone jack died out. Sound peculiar? Mine failed, 2nd time.

My headphone jack died tonight, left channel gone. This is the 2nd time for this same camera. Happened before in May of 2004, 3 weeks after I purchased my new DVX100A. I had to do a warranty repair back then, whole main board, $900+labor, or so I was told. Did it at an authorized service center here in Los Angeles.

Now it's well out of warranty and I'm kinda afraid that Panasonic might not pick up the repair. I think they should because this seems to be a common defect, if this thread is any indication.

Anyone have good things to say about what Panasonic will do? My camera is 14 months old. 271 hours. Will they be benevolent? Or might they say, "tough luck, our camera headphone jacks are likely to fail under regular usage"?

Bonafide

Disregard my previous post. Bad headphones. Camera is fine. Sorry.
