HDX200 lens
How much wider than the DVX will the lens be?
How much do you think a wide angle lens like a 0,6x will cost?

ronik:

Pricing of Century accessories has not been finalized yet but expect them to be similar to those for the Sony HDV accessories. The .6x should be in the $400-$500 list price range. We expect to be announcing pricing at DV Expo in a few weeks.

Good, I really like Century Optics. I've an Ultra Fisheye 0,3x for my DVX100 and I'm very happy with it. Very useful for extreme sports. What lens will you have for the HDX?

Along these lines,
I am assuming that the zoom is an Optical one rather than Digital...
anyone know offhand?
Thanks

The lens is a 13X Optical zoom, the published specification is 4.2mm - 55mm F1.6 - F2.8.

Century manufactures and sells. Many of our products are available thru rental houses. Our sales staff has a general idea of who might have the product for rent in your area. information on contacting them is available on our website www.centuryoptics.com

bill can you please try and make the ultra fisheye not have any vingetting? i love that lens but i hate the vignetting.

What is the close focus distance of the HVX at full wide? I'm sure I'll need a diopter or two for miniature photography, but don't remember seeing this spec mentioned yet...

I'm curious about this as well...

Jim - have you used dioters before? How effective were they is you did? What drawbacks? Thanks, John

bill, wasn´t there the plan for a 2x tele once? why always 1.6? is 2x not possible to to physical limitations? i would love a 2x or even higher....

It's been years since I've done so, and not on any of the DV cameras. Most of the work I've done is with lenses that can focus very close, but I believe the HVX (as would all similar cameras) will need to be sliced down quite a bit in order to get full wide angle and say, accurate focus at 12" or so. The great depth of field helps here, but ...

I'm sure the Century ones will be very high quality with little to no visible distortion. The biggest drawback I can see is the extra weight (about a pound each) and adapting them to fit any mattebox or the like.

It looks like the Century ones are 86mm and use a step up adaptor from the HVX len's 82mm.

Bill, does Century rent lense packages?

Ernest - Most rental houses that have DV cameras (including both our Abel NY and Abel LA offices) do rent the Century lens adapters for the DV lines of cameras. Generally, there is some delay in the release of the lens adapters for new cameras. As indicated on the Century website, most of the HVX200 adapters will not be available until 1st quarter of '06 at the earliest.

Several questions to answer:

Thisiswells: the support for the mattebox will be a standard 15mm rail system, but the difference in the lens centerline height with respect to the base means the part of the bracket that attaches to the camera must be different. The mattebox will be unchanged. Whether you will be able to buy just the parts needed to convert your old support to work with the HVX200 or will need to buy a new support is unknown at this time.

ManglerBMX: The larger wider lens on the HVX200 makes producing an "Ultra FishEye" type lens that will not vignette even more difficult than for the DVX100. We will be offering a Super Fisheye derived from a fisheye originally designed for a broadcast application. This lens should be demo'd at DV Expo in Los Angeles.

alpi69 and pooh: regarding tele attachments. Experience has shown that trying to make large tele's more powerful than 1.5X to 1.7X to be a real problem. The basic camera lens itself is one of the limiting factors that governs the ability to produce a high quality image with a tele attachment- and the higher resolution nature of the HD format makes the problem much worse. We intend to look into something more powerful than 1.6x but I have no idea if or when it would result in a product.

Looking forward to seeing the Century offerings.

Looking forward to seeing the Century offerings.

Might I suggest a package price for multiple hvx lens adapters?

I know I am interested in a tele, zoom-thru wide and fisheye. If this camera lives up to its hype, I'm prepared to drop some cash on glass.
