HDV2 codec of Canon is 50mb/s as Dvcpro50?

Hello guys, I've noticed that Canon Xl H1 has Hdv2 codec, but nobody has investigated about its characteristics. IT' not HDV.
It's time to compare to Dvcpro50, maybe a secret that fast pans dont' break the codec of Canon?
We can assume that this codec is wrote on a tape, but probably it's write at 25mb but sampled at 50mb, so Gop problem is disappeared.

We must investigating on it, I believe it's an info that nobody talkin' about, considering the test of the 4 cameras too.

I hope Barry Green or someone expert could explain to us this thing.

What is HDV2? We know HDV2? It' a sort of codec that could be compared to dvcpro 50, but in Hd? Maybe the Dvcpro 4:2:2 advantage could be equivalent obtainable with Hdv2 and 4:2:0?
We must investigate guys, we must seriously investigate about this mysterious HDV2 codec.
Maybe has hidden advantage as the dvcprohd without the "hype-Varicam-factor".
Thanks,

Cheers:)

I'm not so sure, caro Danilo, sfortunatamente la vita non è un film... 25 mega bits 'cause is 1080i; JVC's 720p@19.

Concerning frame GOP, for instance, there is a shorter 6-frame GOP@JVC's 720p, too. Vs. 15-frame comparing Sony's 1080i. So, GOP is not equal for all HDV.

It's not so mysterious, Danilo. I'm not sure as to the exact details, but I believe it's simply that HDV1 is 720p, and 1080i is HDV2. I certainly could be wrong, but I think that's it. It's not higher bit rate, although 24F in the Canon is a progressive encoding of 24 frames, not 60 fields, a lot like the JVC, only in 1080.

I have a clip for you to check out soon.

Elton is correct. HDV1 is 720p at 19 megabits, HDV2 is 1080 at 25 megabits. The Canon has changed the frame storage situation, using progressive encoding for 24 & 30, and interlaced encoding for 60i, whereas the Sony uses interlaced recording in all modes.

But no, it's not 50 megabits, it's not anything like that. It's the same fundamental HDV that the Sony uses, but with progressive encoding for 24F and 30F, which is why it's incompatible with the Sony.
